Advice on pre-purchase used boat motor compression test

Too much spread in the compression numbers for my taste from high to low you have a 28% spread. I also believe the mechanic is wrong, Yamaha does provide a spread range on compression if I remember correctly the top and bottom end for my old 200 hp two stroke was 130 - 115 PSI. Look into it...

    Grady shopping is difficult

This is a great boat with the best multipurpose layout of any 24/25' CC that I have looked at. You can't go wrong as long as it is in good shape and has been well cared for. Make sure you have someone go through the engine including a compression check. Also have a moisture check done on the...

    Grady shopping is difficult

Does this model year still have the cut away hull? There was a 247 that had a hull where the last 18" before the transom stepped up so it was not really a wetted 24 feet. If so you need to really check this model against the newer models where they went to the full length hull.

    24' Edgewater "Crossover"

Gradyfish22, your comment made me stop and think about my comments and what I did not like about the boat. I even went to the web site to review the boat again. After thinking about it, my negative impression stems from the layout of the boat and the, to my taste, goofy looking top. I also...

    24' Edgewater "Crossover"

Yes, I saw it at the Boston show and was not impressed. The layout had a lot of issues as did the quality. It was clear to me that this boat was their first attempt at a DC. In my opinion fit, finish and layout was not up to the level of a GW or Pursuit but was priced along with both. I...

    Fire Extinguishers

For all, putting out a gasoline fire with an extinguisher is not as easy as one might think. At one of my clients that has lots of flammable bad stuff on hand as part of their process they had the fire department come in a train all of the employees on how to put out a fuel based fire. The...

    Yamaha F350 Recall 411

I discussed the issue behind the recall of the F-350 with the service manager of my dealer yesterday and was told the following. The flywheel on the F-350 is running hot, once hot it is vibrating at a frequency that is setting up a harmonic with the crank shaft that can result in the failure...

    Tournament 225 - Yamaha 2-stroke OX66 Performance

As requested by Seasick provide more specifics including if the boat is currently stored in water or out. The speed sounds to me to be a little bit low but that's a heavy boat to be powered by a 225. Current factory specs call for 41.5 mph @ 5500 RPM with a 225 four stroke. Given that...
