Based on all this I would say go with the 208 with Four stroke power and a trailer. You will be very happy. Its an very easy boat to tow and launch my yourself and fish.

I have a 1997 with no hard top and a F200- 4 STROKE, And this is what I do as well. It works great and you should be able to get her on a plane, it will take a few seconds, but after you get her on a plane do just as DB says and it will work great. I get 6000 rpm and 48 mph Top speed.

Call or e-mail Andy at SIM. His number is above in the SIM ad. I have the same kicker and he told me that if you let the engine sit for awhile the you will need to change the filter or you will have problems like you have. Call him or e-mail him and he will walk you thru it.

go with the one with the Yamaha 4 stroke. Its a good engine. Make sure you check the corrosion problem on the engine before you buy.

vst tank and filter, drain the VST tank and see if you have any water or junk in the tank drain it in a jar or bowl. Next open the vst tank and look at the yellow filter annd see if its clogged or has any white power on it. Replace the filter. You might need a new o-ring as well it goes...
