Sea Star tilt helm leak- 272 Sailfish

Workdog....thanks for the link and info. I am not sure if it makes a difference, but I have a tilt helm. This helm is mounted at an angle. I mention this because the fluid is dripping from the back side of the pump assembly (behind the dash). My thought is that simple gravity is why (ie, this is...

Sea Star tilt helm leak- 272 Sailfish

Last season I had the seals replaced on the tube assembly at the motors. The good news is that there are no leaks back there. Unfortunately, this season I had a leak coming from somewhere in the helm assembly. I got through the season by adding a little fluid from time to time, while trying to...

    Windsield Washer Replacement

Unfortunately, the answer is probably yes. There is a slim chance that you can remove the broken screw-in nipple and screw in a new one, but if it was as corroded as mine was, then you will likely have to replace the assembly.

Time to replace the cushions, combing pads etc

I paid $400 for the combing. That did not include the curved seat back (was still in very good condition). He came to the boat, removed the old and three days later installed the new. It looks as good as the original. If I wanted the seat back done the quote was another $300.

    Soggy cabin ... troubleshooting

I had a similar problem on my 2000 272. There were leaks on both port and starboard sides originating from the forward facing windows. I siliconed under the black rubber along the sides and bottom of the glass as well as the outer edge where the aluminum meets the fiberlass along the sides and...

    272 Speed/Bottom Paint

For what it is worth I have a 2000 272 powered by twin 200 HPDI's. The bottom is lightly sanded and repainted every season with ablative paint. At 4,000 rpm's she will run around 32mph loaded with fuel and water. At WOT she runs 5,500 rpm's and 41 to 42 MPH. Those numbers have been constant for...

    Low Water Pressure

After a few years of the same problem off and on, I got tired of removing the back panel to get at the pump/filter every time I had to clean the screen. I have left the screen out for the past three years and simply unscrew the faucet heads and clean those screens every once in awhile. Much easier.

    282 Sailfish Lighting Question

I am talking about the rubber coated push-button switches on the lights. They are pretty simple to replace.

    282 Sailfish Lighting Question

I had the same problem with a few on my 272. I bought new switches (a few bucks each) and after swapping them out, the problem has not come back. I now keep a spare switch in my tool kit.

    Fresh water system leaks?

Check the freshwater spray head at the transom. I have to service mine almost every season otherwise it sticks and will leak slightly down into the aft bilge. Not easy to notice because it is tucked away when not in use. Good luck finding the leak.
