    Evinrude E-Tec any opions ?

If you repower a GW with an etec you'll create an orphan of a boat, there are good reasons why the company only installs Yamaha 4S's. The fuel usage on an etec is significantly higher than other 4S's, expect a single 250 hp etec to burn nearly 3 gph more at cruising speeds. With gas on the...

    300hp Yamaha experiences??

Getting only 40-41 mph at WOT on a 23' boat with 300 hp is TERRIBLE ! Check out the 300 hp Suzuki, it doesn't weight that much more and is alot better engine.

    Etecs on a sailfish

I researched this myself on other forums and based on independently verified results the E-Tecs use significantly more fuel ( like 3 gph more at cruise with twin 225 hp E-Tecs ), the two stroke oil is outrageously expensive ( $ 40 a gallon for the XD-100 ), they cost more to purchase new than...

    cool 283 release paint job

Paint technology has come a long way to where a boat will still shine like new for a very long time. Check out Viking yachts, they offer colored hullsides and their boats always look gorgeous for years and years.

    cool 283 release paint job

Would be nice if the GW factory offered a choice of hullside colors. Their look has become very dated and with new boat sales being depressed now would be a good time to make a bold change.

    considering E-TECH 300hp

Here are some comments from etec 300 hp owners on the FS forum: Posted by Slingnbait: "I am running one on a Canyon Bay 2475, I had a 250 on it before and I think the 250 performed better than the 300. I can tell you this it sucks alot more gas at all speeds than the 250 did and I am...

    225 e-tec on a 1997 seafarer???????

The Mercury Optimax has been out longer than the e-tec and Mercury has recently upgraded it - its now quieter and delivers better fuel economy than the e-tec. Additionally, Mercury has many more dealers out there than Evinrude. You'll also have a greater selection of props too. Opti's in my...

    Grady 336 w/Yamaha 350s

Main concern here is his intakes are underwater, not "a tiny bit of skeg".

    Grady 336 w/Yamaha 350s

As the original poster wrote, "I have a Grady 336 with Yamaha 350s. With the engines trimmed all the way up the lower water intakes remain in the water.", - so there's a problem. I will be very interested in seeing how GW handles this. Unless they have some creative solution I do not see an...

    Grady 336 w/Yamaha 350s

Absolutely, if the lower units on those boats don't clear the water then they have a design defect and are negligent as well. Your logic implies 3 wrongs ( GW, Reg and SP ) somehow makes a right and excuses them all. Face up to the fact that GW simply didn't check to see how the larger F350...

    Grady 336 w/Yamaha 350s

Your post doesn't make any sense. You say raise the engine but then "don't complain about poor planning and cavitation" - thats your solution ? And "anchors" don't need water to cool them or cost nearly $ 50,000 like twin F350s.

    Grady 336 w/Yamaha 350s

Considering the poster paid top dollar for this boat he has every right to expect those motors to ride above the waterline. GW slapped on the new F350's on the same old deck design and evidently the motor wells need to be deeper so you can tilt up those taller motors more and get the skeg...

    Factory Tour

Building quality takes time instead of just slapping wood stringers together. If you've been through Intrepids factory like I have you'd see the difference in the first minute.

And what kind of boats are the ones you listed? Narrow beam center consoles (my Sailfish is 6" narrower than a 36' Yellowfin) made for the tournament type. Intrepid's 475 Sport Yacht is 47'6" long and 13'8" wide yet you still refer to it as a "narrow beam center console" ??? They've got a 2...

GW charges the same as top tier boats like Intrepid, SeeVee, and Yellowfin, and none of them have wood stringers. Good enough for you or are you a GW robot too ?? And what kind of boats are the ones you listed? Narrow beam center consoles (my Sailfish is 6" narrower than a 36' Yellowfin)...

That is exactly right, the TRUE reason GW stays with wood stringers is because it puts more money in Eddie Smiths ( owner of GW ) pocket. And he's got his employees trained like robots to spout the corporate line everytime the question is asked, "we stick to the tried and true in boatbuilding"...
