    Surface Mounting Electronics?

I just got the gt20 TM $99. Need to make sure the transom mount will work. I am going to mount on the lower hull by the garboard drain plug. I think there would be too much turbulance (air bubbles) on the upper step. Sure hope i don't need the thru hull x ducer for $700. I also have a 4208 gps...

    Surface Mounting Electronics?

I just got mine as well. I am going to mount it in the black acrylic door. It will remain hinged for interior access. I will move the latch to the side. I can post some pics when completed. You have a notched transome as well. Where are you mounting the down scan transducer? Garmin tech...

    Notched transom x-ducer

Greetings, (95 Islander). Iam looking at purchasing a Garmin CHIRP Downvu system. Having a notched transom, I am concerned about getting a clean signal. Is anyone else running a transom mounted transducer and how well does it function? Current system is a thru-hull tri-ducer. (Furuno) On a...

    Anchor Pulpit

I hook mine up in spring and keep it on the pulpit till i wrap her up for winter. No problems. Keep it latched somehow to prevent accidental deployment while underway.

    Anchor locker latch

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

Port side wasn't too bad except for being upside down for a while. It came apart pretty easily. Have a helper to install the thru hulls. I used 4200 as a sealant inside and out on the thru hulls. Double clamp and reverse the hose clamps. I am hoping a 4 inch hole works for the starboard side.

Deck drain hose & thru hull replacement

95 Islander: I completed the port side thru hulls and hoses. I used the fuel hose as was originally used. I removed the trash can and hung upside down inside the opening. You just need to right yourself occasionally and let the blood flow out of the head. I am looking at completing the...

    Tackle Center in Cabin

What if you would angle the back edge of the storage boxes down at a 15 degree angle? You will likely loose a spot use a single bungee if needed but I don't think you would need a bungee at all.

    Steering doesn't work

95 Islander, just replaced the helm this spring. Free spinning wheel at times, stuck check valve and a small leak at the steering shaft. Replaced with a tilt helm from Ebay for $400. (older model) Had to cut a 4 1/2 inch hole in the dash. You can try to fill and flush but there is a leak...

    Bow Pulpit Project

It appears that you have been around some woodworking projects. Nice job on the layout. In my experiences with PT, it typically warps and cracks. You probably feel that the core will never rot but there is going to be a lot of movement with temperature changes which may cause internal...

    265 dome light

Remove the cover by removing two small screws. Remove the bulb. Mine had a screw under the bulb holding the fixture to the e box. The switces can be removed by loosening a small ring nut on the inside of the lamp housing securing the switches.

    Steering Wheel Removal

I just removed mine last weekend and used a wheel puller loaned by Advanced Auto. I sprayed it with PB Blaster about a week before I made the attempt and spent about 3/4 hour with the puller moving it to different spots and tapping. I did not apply extreme pressure with the puller, but...

    Wiring on 1997 268

On my 95 if you remove the access panel behind the head, you will be able to access the rigging tube which runs to the aft bilge area as well as the area under the bridge floor which you can then access via the deck plate on the bridge between the helm and companion seats. I was able to pull a...

    Material for replacement toe rails

I used 1 inch thick Starboard. Slotted the holes a bit, 1/8" on each hole and no noticable changes in summer. Snugged up the screws and they are not loose at all.

Bow Pulpit Restoration and New Windlass Install

I placed mine directly inline with the chain. I have had the same tensioner for about 3 years and it has not released. I feel that if it would release, the chain will remain on the hook and will just have a bit of slack but not completely deploy. We manually deploy the anchor so have not had...

Bow Pulpit Restoration and New Windlass Install

Rob, Did you lay any cloth in the damaged areas? Did you use poly resin or epoxy? I didn't know about jacking up the pressure, I figured it would atomize the gel too small and not get the texture. I eventually used the prevail because that is what worked for me in the past. Surface is very...

    Tip on Gelcoating

OK, so I have been spending some of my free time refinishing some hatch covers for the 95 Islander that are starting to delaminate aound the edges. I finished spraying the anchor hatch cover yesterday with the textured finish and set it aside for the night. Well, the next afternoon it was...
