2020 228 on the Monterey Bay

Great report and that's a nice pile of fish.

    Long distance trailering tips

If so that would be really upsetting, I bought it new this spring from a Grady dealer when i bought my 228 so trusted their recommendation. I plan to haul it from VA to FL at least once a year and I regularly travel 200 - 300 miles with it.

    Long distance trailering tips

Thanks, right now I only have a 2" drop but before I start messing with thre calipers I'll measure and bring it up a couple inches with a straight receiver.

    Long distance trailering tips

How do you know if the calipers are sticking and how do you fix it? I've been trailering a smaller boat long distances for 30 plus years. I take all the precautions and carry a lot of spares but just bought a new trailer with breaks and the front axel constantly runs much hotter than the rear...

    Grady 226 tow vehicle

Go with the Silverado. I tow my 228 with a Ram 1500 no problem but I'm also planning to take it to FL from VA in the winter so I'm glad to have that extra power.

Yamaha Mechanic Recommendation - Hampton Roads Area?

Following since I'm new to the area but haven't needed any work yet.

Under Deck Storage - Adding the access hatch

My 228 has floor/deck drains in front of the helm seats and water splashes up through them in moderate rolling so I think you'll need a major macerate pump with check valve if you want that area to drain overboard. I'd like to hinge the whole hatch lengthwise but the pilot seats will interfere...

    How to minimize water intrusion.

I'm familiar with and like GE silicone for this kind of application and normally I'd just clean the excess with some sort of solvent (acetone) but I'd be interested to see what you do with dawn and water.

    How to minimize water intrusion.

Given all the issues I hear about older Grady's I'm wondering what if anything people are doing to minimize water intrusion. I've been doing some work on my 2005 Seafarer 228 and it does not appear Grady applied any sealant to the various hull and deck penetrations when the boat was originally...

Deck Scupper drains on 228 Seafarer

Hey Ky Grady, looks great, who's the MFG and part number of that stainless drain? Update: I attempted the repair Saturday before boating, figured a couple hours (famous last words...) one gentle tug and the existing drain fitting snapped like a toothpick. Lucky I found a direct replacement...

228 - making it water tight?

I thought my F225 has an alternator, no? https://www.google.com/search?q=yamaha+f225+alternator+output&oq=yamaha+f225+alternator&aqs=chrome.0.0j69i57.11904j0j4&client=ms-android-verizon&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

    Foot switches for windlass?

I'm doing some chores and hopefully some fishing this weekend probably won't be able to post pics until next week. Looks like a factory install of a lewmar pro fish, the issue is the line hits the front part of the locker first so bunches and clogs rather than dropping to the bottom.

228 - making it water tight?

Thanks, that center 3x2 deck panel needs to be sealed so good thing you figured that out. Next time I'll plug my deck scupper drains to see how fast it'll shed 100 gallons but in all my years I've never had anywhere near that much water on deck and can't imagine what conditions would put me in...

    What can it take?

".I do have wings to help when the going get's rough" wings? Back to the OP the best way to learn what you and the boat can take is keep venturing further until you understand your comfort zone and learn how to anticipate the weather before it hits you in the face. That boat will easily...

228 - making it water tight?

I'm still learning my 05 228 so I totally agree with what you're doing, need to understand your boat but you might be over thinking things. If you somehow got hundreds of gallons on deck 99% would drain out your scupper before entering the bilge and unless you had a major issue your bilge...

    Foot switches for windlass?

Can someone post a pic of a foot switch? Just bought a 228, it's my first boat with a windlass but so far not a fan. Thinking about installing some sort of slave switch inside the locker to minimize trips back and forth from the helm when I'm solo. Trying to minimize deck clutter and surface...

228 - making it water tight?

All these plus several others including the front anchor locker. Bone dry bilge is not possible but worth looking into if you're getting a lot of water on a calm day and you're not doing a lot of washing.

    Solar Battery Charger

I'm planning to do this and done some research but open to feedback if anyone disagrees. I'm told anything more than 10 watts you'll want a charge controller so you don't over charge and damage your battery. You could probably connect the charge controller to the common posts inside the...

    Kicker motors

It's custom fabricated for a Grady dealer in Seattle called Jacobsen Marine. $600 plus shipping but it's a work of art and solid as a rock. I dare say I could probably tie a line to it and lift the entire boat with it.

    NJ fishing reports

Just found this thread and enjoyed reading the reports. I keep my boat in either OC MD or VA Beach but run out of the NJ Highlands on my brothers Regulator so I'm very familiar with this area and one day I may be able to add a report. Shrewsbury Rocks is about as far south as we'll go and...
