    Purchasing a Used Grady

“a family friend, he suggested that any outboard over 10 years is basically a waste unless it's truly an underused boat.” That’s a pretty broad, myopic statement and unless he’s paying for the boat, I’d seek out further insight. There are a lot of excellent top end manufactures whose boats...

    Horn not working, help

All, Any advice on helping me trouble shoot my horn? Put her away last fall and it worked fine. Tried it just before launch yesterday and no go. Just launched this morning and wouldn’t you know it, got boarded by the Coasties. No problem, had my whistle to get me by, but definitely want...

    Gulfstream 1989 Purchase Advice

I would definitely check the port and starboard cabin windows for signs of leaking. I think a lot of guys, with a lot of models, have had to fix or replace these. Same with the bow hatch. Not a huge problem but one you should be aware of before purchase. Also check the anchor rode and...

    Removing Boat Name

I’ve taken a couple of vinyl names off the previous boats I’ve bought. Not too difficult. You can probably do a search and find some more details, but a hairdryer, needle nose pliers (or even tweezers) and acetone will get the job done. Just warm up the vinyl and find an edge that you can...

How soon until you're back in?

I should be all tiddied up by the end of the weekend and be ready to splash by next weekend. Ted

Salt Spots on Window- tried everything

Where are you located (it could make a difference) and which windows are you referring to? i.e. The windshield, the cabin windows or the eisenglass? I hate water spots too and fought the battle with different products for all three of these areas. Ted

    New GPS

Can't wait to get on the water and try it out. Won't be long now. Ted

    My son...not really Grady related

Bob, Godspeed to you and yours. You'll be in my prayers. Ted

    New GPS

Similar to you, I just had my old Apelco unit taken out and a new Garmin 540 put in. Since I matched up the new one where the old one was and the wiring could be pulled through this was a pretty easy install. They had quoted $350 for that specific work. Good luck. Ted

Happy Australia Day to Aussie Grady owners

Good on ya, Go Wallabies! And just for you... Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong Under the shade of a coolibah tree, And he sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda "You'll come a-Waltzing...

    Gulfstream Cover vs Shrinkwrap

When I got my GS I looked and looked for a semi-custom cover that would fit the boat. But with the wide beam, single outboard engine with a bracket with the swim platform, bow pulpit and hard top I couldn’t find anything. Despite exchanging a lot of data, no dealer would give me a reasonable...

    Gulfstream Power

Congratulations on the new rig. Definitely post some pics when you can. I am also a Gulfstream owner with a single 250 and wishing for more HP. But hey, if I can have all my druthers I won’t stop at wishing for another engine for my Gulfstream! I think the fact that you went into it with...

    winterizing grady (mid-atlantic area)

Good list, thanks. I also pull stern drain plug, open the deck hatches and then rinse out around the gas tanks with fresh water. Doesn't have to be done for winterization but good to do when you have boat tilted and the drain plug out.

New 2000 Gulfstream owner with questions

Congratulations on the new boat! One other issue I’d be concerned with is the gas in the tanks, both the main and the auxiliary. Since you did a sea trial and everything went OK, the main is probably alright, but did you switch over to the aux during the sea trial? (something I didn’t think...

Twin Engine Handling (or lack thereof)

There’s a guy in my marina who said that the lines strung in between the outer slip pilings and the main dock are “sissy lines”. I told him they were aids to navigation!

    cleaning a scumline

Here in the Chesapeake we run into the same issue. I bought my 1997 new to me Gulfstream with the paint and the scum line struck exactly at the water line, which I think is a mistake. This summer I raised it about two inches. It looks much better and although there are still some small...

    My First Grady

My concern with this opportunity is that it looks almost too good! At that price my question would be, “what’s wrong with it?” I have a ’97 GS with a Yamaha 250 and know what I paid for mine, and it was significantly more than what this is advertised for. There may be reasons for this and...

New boater question about the Voyager and Gulfstream

I agree with almost all the comments posted here and certainly the sentiments to both sides of this discussion. This has been kicked around (or beaten to death) in other posts so check them out and decide for yourself. Twin engines on the Gulfstream are certainly the preferable setup, but my...

    Fishfinder GPS

Although I haven’t used them, I hear that BOE Marine, http://www.boemarine.com/ has good deals and a good reputation for service. I’m in the market for a combo GPS/Fishfinder, but it probably won’t happen till next season. Good luck.

What’s in your on board tool box?

What’s in your tool box, or maybe more specifically what are the essential tools you have on board? This may have been discussed before but thought it would be an interesting topic for everyone to pipe in on. Of course this is gonna be different for everyone, based on boat size and expertise...
