    HPDI QUESTION

I had a similar problem. It turned out to be 1 bad injector. Once replaced the engine ran great.

    Hydrofoil or Trim Tabs?

Trim tabs for sure. They should be mandatory on any boat under 50 feet or so. Hydrofoils only after you see what the trim tabs do for the boat. If you feel that are really necessary and you are not happy with the improvements that trim tabs will give you, then install hydrofoils. Small holes in...

    yes or no for Zinc

Yes to zincs on trim tabs. I replace mine every year. They take the brunt of my zinc ware on my boat that is in salt water 7 months a year. Because of the trim tab zincs my engine zincs last 2 to 3 seasons and they are easier and less expensive than Yamaha zincs.

THINKING OF MOVING UP IN SIZE

In the Chesapeake the issue id that the depth is shallow and the reach is long. This causes wave a condition called chop. Very short duration in time from peak to peak. The shorter the boat the greater effect that you will experience. I could tell the difference when I went from a 25' to 28 foot...

    NE Boat Show Thoughts

The walk around is the way to go in the north east. I can fish around the whole boat and keep warmer than in a CC. In the south I would have a CC, but not up here. The CC limits the duration of fishing months while considering comfort.

    FIBERGLASS REPAIRS as per SANDY

If you have a boat on a trailer, find a good local auto body shop that repairs fiberglass cars (Vets) and take it there. If that is not the case then there are fiberglass repair people that repair fiberglass tubs and showers. They will come to your boat. If that is not possible then the last...

    Engine Spacing??

The only positive that I can see is that there will be more and faster control when of the direction of travel, particularly when backing down for docking. The farther the motors are apart the more they can effect the line of motion with respect to the center line of the boat.ie the boat will...

    Operating Cost

Up until Sandy I had a 272 that sailed off into the sun set without me. It had twin 200 hp HPDI that were installed 2 years ago. Prior to that it had 200 hp OX 66 power. Fuel economy at cruising (3200 to 3500 rpm) went from 1.3 mpg to 1.8 mpg and the speed increased by 3 mph with the same...

    Marlin - Two Stupid Questions

I think that Grady extended the running bottom on the 272 Sail fish to the 282 and the 28 marlin to the 30 when the factory went from lighter weight 2 stroke motors to the heavier 4 stroke motors and needed more buoyancy and lift in the stern to compensate. The basic boats remained the same...

Removal of Batteries for Winter 272 98

I have always left my batteries on the boat but I have solar battery maintainers with built in diodes hooked up , one to each battery. Never had an issue. Bought them at NAPA but I have seen them at Harbor Freight also for around $20.00 each. I seal the solar cell in a plastic zip lock bag to...

    Article on Yamaha F225 Engines

I hope that Yamaha learns the lesson that OMC didn't with their wonderful FICHT motors. Every one has a vote, and in the case of both OMC and Yamaha, the consumers vote is in the form of dollars not spent on their products. I had 2 OMC junkers with no manufactures support so my replacement...

    1999 yamaha 200 hpdi-question

Have the motor checked out by a competent Yamaha service Tech. I replaced OX 66 200 hp motors with 200 hp HPDIs and got much better performance out of them. My boat is faster and more fuel efficient than a friends 272 with the OX 225 motors. What you may loose it top end you will make up for in...

Looking at a 1994 252 Sailfish. Need Advice

I had a 252 with the engines mounted in the stern cut out. The vibrations from my twin Evenrudes (175 hp) created small cracks in the bottom corners of the notch.I had to have the corners repaired and reinforced. I now have the 95 272 that is basically the 252 with the added euro stern with the...

Buying 1995 272 Sailfish - Any Advice? & Wish Me Luck

I had a 25 Grady Sail Fish with the old pre. SeeV2 hull design. I went up to a 95 272 with the newer hull design. Love it!!!. I upgraded the motors to twin 200 hp HPDI's. Speed and economy went up substantially. I feel that the 272 step hull is better than the 282 because of the running bottom...

    Bottom paint

If you want a fast boat, then buy a fast boat. A 30 Marlin is a big heavy moderately quick fishing boat. Hard bottom paint won't make it any faster, but over time the build up of heavy hard paint will make it slower. Ablative paint erodes away with time and use. One major caution with ablative...
