    Bottom Paint Question

If you use an ablative paint such as water base Hydro-Coat you will get at least 2 to 3 years out of it. Being an ablative coating the paint erodes slowly while the boat is under way to expose the active agents in the paint and over the course of a couple years it wears away thus eliminating...

    Outboard Smoke

2 stroke of the older design will smoke fairly heavily at start up and while at low rpm and the motor is not up to proper operating temperature. It shows that the automatic oilier is working and protecting the motor. Keep track of your fuel to oil burning ratio. It probably should be 50 to 1...

    Advice-4stroke to hpdi

I have the 272 with twin 200 hp HPDI"s. It runs great and is economical. With my old OX66 200's I was getting 1.1 to 1.2 mpg. With the HPDI"s I am getting 1.7 to 1.8 mpg, with about 1/2 the oil use, and 4.5 mph faster at the same 3600 rpm cruising speed. I can keep up with the 225 hp 4 strokes...

    Life Raft Recommendation and Mounting

I think that there is enough room for a valise type raft to be put in front of the motors after the motors have tipped down. I know there is on the 272. Velcro o0r strap it to the vertical fiber glass just behind the rear seat. It is out of the way but easily accessible. Remove and store in the...

    towing with vinyl enclosure installed

At 60 MPH the wind resistance will be very high. If, and I mean IF, the canvas holds together the extra wind resistance will kill the fuel economy of the tow of the tow vehicle. You may even damage the tow cars transmission with the extra strain. :hmm

    Helm seat slider 272 sailfish

My Grady dealer had the glides on the shelf. Any Grady should be able to get them for you. They are not hard to install, but you do have to remove the through seat bolts and will need 3 hands or a helper to break them loose and to finish tightening them.

Suggestions for Securing ahead of Irene

Get it out of the water. Even if the boat gets destroyed on land your insurance co will see that you took the proper positive actions to prevent damages and be obligated to pay to replace or repair. You will have taken the "prudent actions to mitigate damages".

1960-1961 Grady White 17 1/2' Wood Lapstrake Outboard

Just look on ebay for boats starting with "oldest first" and you will see a lot of older wood boats for sale. I don't know how many are actually sold. The Chris Craft all mahogany boats demand the highest prices as they are rebuilt into show condition, but there are others represented.

    boat does not idle

My old boat (252 Sailfish) had twin new 175 Johnson carb motors that would not stay running when operated at docking speed. Pulpit Drawing

I don't think that there is a standard bow pulpit. The old pulpit from a 252 did not fit or mate up to my 272 without modifications. The curve for the boat bow, the bolt pattern, and the anchor winch holes were not the same. You need the pulpit specs for your specific boat.
