    New to Club...Annapolis, MD

NoSweat, You are in a great boating scenario on the Chesapeake. We are from Annapolis and now reside in New England. You are making all the right moves by keeping on top of the engine and mechanicals. Interesting that the prior owner kept the boat on a lift but the transom had to be re-built...

    Seacocks difficult to close?

The OEM sea cock gear on Gradys quickly froze up and became difficult to open and close. Grady issued an advisory and replacement equipment. Even now it is helpful with the new equipment to open and close the sea cocks every time you are on the boat to keep them moving effortlessly. If you...

    Etec 250 or 300.... 1990 Gulfstream

Inquire at GW corporate about a 300 hp. GW dealerships have been stocking the newer 232s with the Yamaha F350. That tells you something. Get the 300hp if Grady says okay.

    Deluxe Sliding Helm Seat

Had the same problem. After several attempts to fix it myself, I took it in to my Grady White dealership and they fixed it ASAP for very little money. I have been very happy ever since.

    208 vs 228

You are moving up from a Beaver Tail skiff so you might expect to move up again if you bought the 208. Save yourself the trouble and get the 228.

Looking at a Tournament 225 - Advise? - Update, Pics added

DB: I respectfully disagree. All that is needed is for one big item to go south on Cobra and he will spend many times over the cost of a proper survey. For example, a lower unit can run into many $$$. Read the recent post on GG (Engine Failure - 2005 Yamaha F250) which turned out to be a...

    222 ride quality

Dave: I have a 225G, same hull as a 222. In a gnarly chop over 2 feet I have to slow down to about 15 - 18 mph to avoid knocking the Admiral around. Doesn't bother me but the crew can get bumped around. Also consider that you are up higher in a 222 with just a leaning post and a higher...

Looking at a Tournament 225 - Advise? - Update, Pics added

Cobra: A certified Yamaha mechanic is the only way to go for an engine survey. There are many, many items to check out on the engine and a Yamaha mechanic is best qualified to do the job. A sea trial with the surveyor aboard is very important. The surveyor should have a moisture meter to...

    looking at Tournament 223

chuck: The price is certainly low. You could easily be in the $20K area plus by the time you complete the project to make the boat seaworthy. I bought a '98 Tournament which was in very good condition. Normal maintenance and updates added another $10K in two months. This is on a boat in...

    Block Island General

Just east of Montauk can get gnarly so pick your days if you want to scout around. Six footers are not uncommon. The Block is very crowded the time of year you want to visit so call ahead and make arrangements ahead of time. The shoal at north light house juts out quite a distance so don't cut...

    Pink discoloration on vinyl

My aft port bolster drips pink water on the transom seat when water gets behind the bolster. Some discoloration does occur at times on the bolster. My solution has been aggressively to clean the vinyl with vinyl cleaner and a layer of protectorant every several weeks and the problem is greatly...

    Yamaha engine alarms went off.

Z: The oil sensor(s) were probably slammed down to the bottom. They probably re-floated to normal levels after the wave went by. Also if the props took a lot of air the pick ups may have sucked a lot of air, thus, quickly over heating the engines which cooled after they were re-submerged...
