    Reliability of used boats

Zeke: The bottom line on used boats is that they don't stay in "used" condition for very long if you want a reliable vessel. Electronics and mechanicals wear out on the best of boats so they must be replaced in order to keep the boat in safe operating condition. We love our used Grady and...

    Purchase of 228

Anywhere from $100 to $200 for each. Depends on qualifications and experience. By way of my past experience, I found that a good fiberglass boat construction or repair person was every bit as good on the hull survey as was a "professional" surveyor.

    Purchase of 228

The Yamaha 225 hp OX66 is plenty of power. Not to worry. But still it is a 1998 motor so be sure to have a Yamaha mechanic survey the engine for you. Be sure to obtain the Yamaha service manual with the engine. Make sure the console displays for the gas tank and trim motor as well as the...

    20' vs 22'

We have a 1998 GW Tournament with a Yamaha 225 HP OX66 fuel injection and achieve 38-40 mph at WOT with no problem. Normal cruising speed is 32 mph for us. The GW 20 and 22 footers are excellent boats but the 22 footer is much more boat and more suited (IMHO) to your needs. The newer GW 225...

    360 improvements

Some GW owners complain that the canvas option for the hardtop does not work under heavy wet conditions and water drips into the cabin area through the canvas connection to the windshield. Very irritating. You might want to at least test drive the new hard top cabin and see for yourself before...

    bleeding hydraulic steering lines

The steering manual that comes with the boat provides instructions. General procedure is to attach a tube to the plastic steering fluid bottle and screw in the threaded end to the opening on the steering column. Turn the engine full left and then back to full right and back to center to push...

how to clean hull at mooring

A scum line always develops, wax or no wax. A good boat soap and foam brush should do the job. Some "On Off" may also be needed in tough spots.
