    Offshore Fishing Outboard Question

I used to shut down, but haven't done so for many years. Whether it is a fishing superstition or plain fact, many tuna fisherman on the west coast believe that it's best to leave the motors running. Now true, many of these guys are running diesels, and that's not your question, but I have had...

Brand New Fuel tank, but smell fuel in cabin

Probably neither, but the strong odor in the cabin is a very bad sign (from my personal experience). What I do know is this: it will stop raining eventually, and then you'll find out. My guess is that the sending unit gasket is leaking and that by topping off, you've found the weakest link.

    House Battery install 255 Sailfish

My vintage 255 is rigged with two batteries aft, in the port and starboard compartments, and the 2-stroke oil reservoirs used to be accessed inside the head compartment, below the helm. I added a third (house) battery on the port side of the helm area, next to the passenger's feet. After...

    Scary transducer...

An old style B744V thru-hull tri-ducer, as seen in the bilge. The split rings hold the speed/temp insert in place, and the chains are used to connect the split rings to the transducer so that, when removed, the split rings do not "disappear" into an inaccessible spot while removing the insert.

    Is it possible?

Is this the 208 for sale at Outermost Harbor Marine by any chance? It would just be a coincidence, since I'm in San Diego and was in Chatham checking it out while on vacation a couple of years ago. There are a lot of Gradys there. If you want to see what I'm talking about, you can look at my...

    Is it possible?

Since you can see the remnants of the non-skid pattern in portions of the pic, I maintain that the deck is showing signs of heavy wear. Mine looks the same, it just took 25 years to get that way.

    Is it possible?

It took a lot longer for mine to wear, but it's just a matter of hard use.

    Wood Rot/Stingers Around Fuel Tank

A picture or two would be very helpful in assessing your situation. My opinion would be based upon a comparison between how your compartment looks compared to mine when I replaced my two tanks of the same vintage. I would be surprised if your original tank has much time left, and if I replaced...

    Wet Fuel Tank Compartment

Most likely, and my boat ('87 Sailfish 255) exhibits the same characteristic. I pop open the deck plates on the fuel tank hatch covers and leave them open unless the boat is in use. This allows the compartments to "breathe." The boat cover keeps debris and rain water from entering through the...

Thru hull water pick up installation help

If mounted correctly, your existing "hose over" the transom will perform well while the boat is at rest or traveling at high speed. The intake hose may be clamped to a short length of rigid pipe (6" of PVC for example) which is cut at a 45º angle at its trailing end. In my application (I did...

    New Trailer

Describe boat #1 and where it is located. Do the same for boat #2. Recommendations should be forthcoming. I recommend welded, custom made bunk trailers. There may be a builder in the vicinity who already has the hull dimensions on file, if not, he'll have to come to the boat and do his own...

    Fuel line may be bad

I think Dennis is on to something, while I, generally, am just on something. I'm sure other folks will add a few choice words, like: "fuel tank" "pressure test" "replace" and "thousands."

What do you like and dislike about your Grady?

My experience is quite different. I'm just a one Grady owner, although I did purchase my 80's vintage Sailfish new. It has what was then believed to be a proven modified deep V hull, but then Grady changed it. There's a trade off in the new design, but don't tell anyone. I've found I can break...

    Hull Color Choices

Our old Gradys have that traditional style, even maybe a little of the commercial workboat look. Any color that substantially deviates from that just doesn't fit. I voted "silver" and, if you feel any color change is in order, silver is pretty sharp looking and distinctive, without creating a...

    Fuel Tank on Sailfish 25

The bottom of the fuel tank is flat, and measures the same as the top. Removal of mine required two persons who were paid handsomely for their effort. Sorry, there are no known shortcuts. I have posted some before and after pics on this site (as have others, I'm sure) so you should be able to...

1989 sailfish fishbox drain hose replacement...HELP??

Re: 1989 fishbox drain hose replacement...HELP?? Original rigging included a "Y" valve which allowed the washdown pump to service the baitwell. Is that not hooked up anymore or do you want a dedicated pump?
