Which is stronger: Bow Cleats or Bow Eye?

Personally I'd rig a "Y" bridle of 2 lines down from each cleat, through the bow eye each way, and then to the mooring eye, forgetting the pickup buoy. The dual lines spreads the loading and gives 1 as backup if the other fails. TIP: Wrap the lines where they chafe the hull with old cotton...

    Mysterious Top End RPM Issue

Since normally aspirated motors will lose 200 RPMs or more in hot weather and the fact that your bottom is now covered with growth ... I'm not surprised 1 bit you've seen a drop in WOT turns. I'll see the drop due to hot weather, but I scrub the bottom whilst at the beach, so I don't see that...

Laboratory Oil Analysis of Lower Unit Oil

FWIW my family has run from 8 to 15 OB motors per year for the last dozen years, and no less than 6 or more for the previous 30 years ... and have never had a LU issue nor need to do that.

    New 225

FWIW I ran a fuel computer on my big Parker, with OB on a full transom bracket, and now have a fuel computer on my new-to-me GW Tournament (now the 'Freedom' model) 225G. Trimming UP the OB at headway speeds also increases miles-per-gallon fuel efficiency by a good 20-30%! I'll take that any...

    voltage meters

That's where I'd start ... usually a combo part with the rectifier on Yam motors.

    Strange electrical problem

I'd check for a loose ground. Loss of ground can cause a whole host of strange issues. The gauge should be powered by a lead from the harness, that powers the gauge when the ignition is on. The wipers and lights should be on a separate run from the common pole of the battery switch. I'd say...

    Busted bow pulpit

Not only that but the black discoloration in the same area tells me the skin was compromised and that was water penetration, which could have frozen sometime and weakened that spot.

    Help getting seat fabric?

I'll help you, but would need to know what ounce material and size you need. As is, I am going to my local marine upholsterer this weekend. But, I'd recommend you look up www.seadek.com as a viable alternative. Cushions break down in the UV exposure to the sun, while this other material holds...

200HP Yamaha motor loses power - question

Could be the lower unit! My brother's '88 Yam 150hp "locked up" and we thought he had lost a ring/cylinder, as it wouldn't turn over, but it turned out some part near the clutch dog let go and was binding up the crankshaft.

    Which trim tabs?

With trim tabs, regardless of brand, ALWAYS go for wider ('span' across the hull) tabs versus 'chord' (depth or projection off the hull). All tabs work by creating lift, which also creates drag. You will get the same lift by deploying wider tabs of same surface area than deeper ones. I'd...

    Search/Spotlights

FWIW I use a GoLight wired version with wired remote ... and just run the wires back to the cig/assy socket on the main helm. They also make a wireless version, but you'd need to add a power supply waterproof connection near where mounted. I made a simple starboard mount that affiex to the...

    Bow rail rust????

I'd replace the fasteners, waxing them good BEFORE use, using good bedding compound ... but see below. SS is stain LESS, not stain free. Water allowed to sit on most SS pieces can cause the 'rust' bleeding you are seeing. It is my bet that the fasteners are corroding due to crevice corrosion...

    Power TRim Motor

IMHO never buy OEM as #1 ... the OB brand doesn't make them anyway (NONE of them!) and #2 ... any replacement trim/tilt motor can be made to be more reliable with a few simple steps. Most OEMs use the same Sierra or other part you can buy somewhere else much, if not significantly cheaper. FWIW...

steering: # of revolutions stop to stop?

Holy cow that's a lot! But in truth it depends on the volume of the helm pump, whereas the typical Seastar (by Teleflex) helm pump is a 1.7 cubic inch, giving one 3-4 turns lock to lock. The other pumps sizes are 2.0 and 2.4 by Seastar. You'd need to know what model and brand helm you have...

200HP Yamaha motor loses power - question

An OB "wheezing" sounds like a lean sneeze from your needle valve setting. OBs with a SLOW (Speed Limiting Overheat Warning) mode limit the max RPMs and change the timing so she'll shake like Courtney Love on crack at a metal concert. This timing adjustment is intentional so you do not even...

    Engine shut down

Do you run WING NUTS to your battery? If so, please add a SS lock washer onto the posts 1st, one between each attached cable or lead "if room", then a nylok locking nut. Intermittent connection, i.e., loose ground, from the battery can cause an instantaneous shutdown. Or worse, kill your...

    boat does not idle

:uhm Well, you certainly needed a NEW dealer more than anything, specially after 10 complaints! 1) 175hp OMC motors are twin V-bank motors with 3 cylinders per side 2) When activated that 'kill' switch kills 1 bank of 3 cylinders, the port bank IIRC 3) INCORRECT adjustment of the idle speed...

    Multiple Radio's?

Ditto, same here, less the 1st fixed isn't DSC equipped. I guess maybe I have 4 aboard! As 1 station has a remote/command mic, also with DSC activation, so i can run the VHF from the 2nd cotnrol station too. On my Parker that is ... on the new-to-me Grady i'll be going back to 2, 1 fixed, 1...
