    Engine Winterization Work

Dont know what youre planning to use the water for but if its to flush that f 250 using ear muffs and a running engine..dont. If you plan to use the flush port with the engine off, go right ahead.

    Novice Boater

"And this statement "Boat cruises at 35+ mph while sipping 4 gallons per hour" is highly questionable (i.e. not possible). x 2- I would wonder what else has been "exaggerated" by the owner..i.e..service intervals?

Prop for repower 247 with f250

I dont have the combination that you ask about but just to put things in perspective..I have an f 250 on a 228 seafarer and have the 151/2 x 17 prop. I doubt that a 19" pitch is going to work better for you on a bigger boat but someone with that combo may have real world experience that says...

    1983 Grady 190 with a 470 IO opinions

Mercruiser stopped making 470 i/o a long time ago so parts could be a problem. They didnt have a great reputation...do yourself a favor and do a search on them before you go further.

    '99 272 Saillfish buried prop

Something isn't adding up. The fact that the anti vent plate is buried indicates that you should raise the engines..but the fact that the boat breaks loose in sharp turns says the height is ok and raising it up a hole will make this problem worse. The theory is that if you are trimmed properly...

    Storm Haul - How Much$?

I was charged $260 for my 22 footer here on Long Island and the insurance company picked up half of that being it was a named storm.

    Dry dock damage

I would call..just so that the word gets out that you're observant and you're not afraid to call the boss. Next time they might be more careful so they don't have to listen to you again....and I think that's the point; maybe even more than getting them to fix the transducer.

    new boat advise

My next door neighbor had the gulfstream with the single 250. He had no complaints about power but maneuverability at docking was definitely an issue. The 9'3" beam plus the bracket makes it so. I have seen an equal number of gulfstreams with twin f 150's so they are out there. I'm sure that...

Winterizing Detail for the 2005 F250

"I have never drained the VST on my F250, since I run the boat year round. But on my F150, there was a rubber plug near the middle of the VST that covered a relief vent. You removed the plug and pressed a pin with a screwdriver. That let air enter and speeded up the drain process. The F250...

    Repower ?

Im guessing that if you give up 25% of your horsepower and the maneuverability of twins for a single you wont be happy.

Suggestions for Securing ahead of Irene

I had a 28' kept at Surfside when Gloria hit (1987?) I had poles and backed up to a bulkhead. The guys at the marina stayed and kept pushing the boats off as the wind and surge tried to push them up onto land. The tide was extremely high and when I went down after the storm, I saw the...

    226/228 outboard clearance

I have the f 250/ 228 combination and as you mention part of my lower unit does not clear the water . I looked into this and understand that the best solution is to paint that part of the LU that doesn't clear the water with Trilux aluminum anti fouling paint each year. I was worried about it as...

    100 hr maintenance

I had gotten this from another site but haven't needed to use it yet, so who knows. Press and hold "mode" button for 4 seconds to activate "custom" mode. Press SET button to get to the MAINTENANCE screen While the 100 hrs message is flashing, press MODE and SET together for 1 second to reset...

    Oil Leak, Yamaha 250 4-stroke

If the problem persists you may want to remove the cowling and pack the bottom of the motor well with those white absorbent pads. At least this way you will see the general area that any leaks are originating from before they pool and run out the front.

    Oil Leak, Yamaha 250 4-stroke

I had that once and the tech told me that sometimes it can come from the dipstick area while the engine is tilted up and to the starboard. Told me to turn it to port before tilting it up. I kind of doubted it but did as he suggested. Never had an issue again. Hope it's that easy for you.

228g hard top ,top end speed

Jiminga is correct in what he says. I have an f-250 with a 17 pitch and turn 6000 rpms with a wot of 43 mph(that's on a Yamaha SWS prop). I bought a new Mercury Mirage Plus on ebay for $175 as a spare and will probably try it out in the next 2 weeks. I would try ebay and try for a merc prop as...

    Which trim tabs?

I agree with Daleh and Tom . I have a 228 seafarer w/ f 250. It came with the stock tabs (9x12 ?) and I am also looking to go bigger as response time lags a lot and as Tom says , these tabs are just "just not cutting it" either...probably because of the weight. Go with the biggest tabs that you...

200HP Yamaha motor loses power - question

I just noticed that you said an alarm went off this time...but you said no alarm went off the first time. When the alarm went off this time did you look at your engine temp?

200HP Yamaha motor loses power - question

Being that it started up fine when it was cold I'm guessing that its an overheat condition (irregardless of lack of alarm)which causes expansion in the cylinders. That could be why you needed both batteries to start it the first time, and as someone else suggested, you went into "limp" mode. If...

200HP Yamaha motor loses power - question

I was thinking that possibly you overheated and it was hard to crank because of the expansion. Have you tried to start it recently since its had time to really cool off? Take a look at the oil level/ condition. The fact that it happened while you were idling and that the engine sounds strange...
