What's the beef about Grady on that other boating forum

Molded in bow pulpits are not quality in my opinion. Look around at top tier boats like Little Harbor(like Hinckley) power boats or high end custom offshore fishing yachts with pulpits ... most, if not all, are bolt on. The guy in the slip next to me(with a 40' Little Harbor Whisper Jet) had his...

    Cabin: Plastic Headliner cracks

Re: headliner crack Same case with me... they fixed it well after the warranty period.

    Shrinkwrap

Good advice!!! It's very easy to nick you gelcoat if you aren't carefull. Also... only cut the nylon straps that are securing the shrink wrap. Do not cut the straps the are used to hold up the wooden support structure. After you get the plastic wrap off then attack the support structure...

    Marlin Transom flex.......Not flexing

Pushing up on the stern rub rail and having it move up "vertically" is not flex in the transom. If that is what is really happening then the upper deck deck screws must be missing and you are actually moving the transom deck... but even moving that 3" would require one heck of a lot of strength...

    Marlin Thruster advice

A friend of mine had Florida Bow Thrusters install one in his 1995 Islander. They came right to the marina before he launched in the spring and did a really nice job. Only thing I'd suggest is don't go for the smallest one they have. The one Grady installs works very well... I have one on my...

    F250 Water Pumps

Question: how many of you don't follow the 200hr recommendation for water pumps... and if you don't what do you do? Also: I have the Yamaha shop manual and changing the water pump looks straight forward. Are there any "tricks" I should know? I've heard that sometimes the lower unit doesn't...

    Eisenglass curtains and winter

Ditto... my dealer told me to leave mine on in winter storage. I've been doing it for the past five winters and never had a problem.

    268 Islander... Wet, Rough ride?

I had a '95 Islander with a single 250 motor and found it to be a great hull... would slice comfortably through 5-6' head seas once I had it dialed in. I actually liked it better than the 282 Sailfish I had. You may have something else going on there.... I assume you are not the original...

    Upgraded Windlass

I upgraded also to the Lewmar Pro Series (not the free fall model) and I find it far superior to the vertical windlass that came stock on my Marlin. Don't know if you had 8-plait rode o your 2004 but mine did and the stock Lewmar verticle windlass would stack the 8-plait steeply in the anchor...

    336 Hard Top

I was told the exact same thing. Mine was just under 50#. I've been told, not by Grady White, that they are worried about cracking the welds on the hardtop legs. I also called Grady and asked if I could change out the 10gal holding tank to 15gal... the answer I got was "they have never tested...

Adding Rod Holders to Marlin Transom?

Thanks for the tip.... I'm going to head down to the boat tomorrow or tuesday and figure out which way to go.

    Please wipe your feet!

I've used, with good results, the heavy rubber door mats with the open pattern. The open pattern has very short(almost micro) brush type fibers and the mat doesn't hold any water and dries out quickly when it rains.

Adding Rod Holders to Marlin Transom?

Bob... thanks for the pics... that does help. Last night I was actually wondering if I could put one on each side of the fish box instead of a center holder. What angle rod holder did you use on the transom and also on the center holder in the gunwales?

Adding Rod Holders to Marlin Transom?

Great idea... gives me something to think about. I think I could do the same thing with one pair of clamp-ons on the legs. I wouldn't remove my hardtop rod holders because I use them to get my offshore rods out of the way when my wife & I head to Montauk or Block Is. Thanks for the feeback...

Adding Rod Holders to Marlin Transom?

Full Page... thanks for the picture. I do have the hardtop rod holders and am still looking for any easier way to slow troll off the center line. I love that picture... I can show your picture and Brian's to my wife and point out that a lot of Grady owners carry just as many rods as I do :D...

Adding Rod Holders to Marlin Transom?

Cummins, are you implying to use the battery access to get my hand in there? I doubt I could reach very far... I'll check that out. Fishbox idea... wouldn't that have to be cut out? Fishie1... thanks!!

    330 Express

Bob... I think the answer is "all of the above" :D And right again... last thing you want to do is look at a title that looks clean and later find out it is part of a divorce trial. Port of Egypt (out by you) had 3 or 4 33's for sale earlier this year... they all went for fantastic...

Adding Rod Holders to Marlin Transom?

Me too... and a couple of pictures would be great. If you have a generator it's probably impossible to do. Go Fish... thanks for the idea but I don't think it would work for me. There will be a lot of resistance trolling for stripers on the bottom and always a chance of getting hung up in...
