    2 stroke oil

Actually GW204 thats a good point/idea. Who knows when or if there was ever any service done to the tanks so I might as well take advantage of the situation, put in a little effort and start off 100% Sounds like a good end of the year project

    2 stroke oil

Thanks again. I looked at Amsoils website and it does look interesting. I also like that I can buy in bulk. The 16 gallon keg looked good. I assume you ran the oil in your tanks down as much as safetly possible before filling up with Amsoil. Correct?

Check out Lee's website. Besides outriggers they make generic bolt on brackets for differant size pipes.

    2 stroke oil

No question that the water in the dealer's oil was a one shot deal. The guy has a sterling reputation. But it did make me wonder since normally I'm that one in a million chance (except with the lottery) Also I'm new to outboards but no one has ever told me about a catostaphic engine failure...

    2 stroke oil

Thanks. I did consider that option but I'm not sure I want to deal with having to store oil like that. Its not a bad idea though.

    2 stroke oil

I know the subject of what oil to run in a 2 stroke motor has been raised before and the general consenous is to use Yamalube. But here is my question. I had intended to buy Yamalube from the local Yamaha dealer/service yard in my area in bulk (you know bring your container and they fill it...

    Engine not getting fuel?

Pete I wish I could be more positive but its ging to be a real PITA. I know first hand having bought a boat that sat for 4 yrs with MTBE fuel in it (luckily it never had E10 put in). I had a sludge/gel on everything fuel related just from the old MTBE. My suggestion. Call a fuel polishing...

why is Grady still using wood ?

The various boating magazines like to trot out articles now and then for shock value and expound on the virtues of wood since its goes against most peoples sense of logic. Amazing as it may seem wood is the strongest per square inch material and as Mega said when properly used its good to go...

Results of my first run on 1996 27' Sailfish

I had a number of issues on my 1990 Yamaha 250's, mostly due to a real bad mechanic. Was the boat/motors in storage for any length of time? Check to make sure the carbs are in synch as well as properly adjusted. I had a problem with one motor starting fine when cold and running good, but...

    Older Grady a Good Idea?

The age of a fiberglass boat would never discourage me. But admittely I'm biased. I have a 1978 Pacemaker and last year picked up a 1990 280 Marlin. Besides the advice to get a survey I'd add in that expect to have projects. Little things like wire connections, hose, etc. are minor but can...

Suggestions for a replacement switch panel for 1988 sailfish

Check the other postings/threads here. Someone posted pics of a great job they did on their switch pannel where they had a local trophy shop make up a custom board. Its on my list of upgrade to do. If I recall they even etched in the GW emblem

    Small LCD tv for cabin

Try doing a google search for "12 volt TV" I did this a while ago and it came up with some interesting LCD tvs. Some where the very small type (6 inch screens) and had me thinking about adding one to the helm area on my Marlin. Nothing better then fall Bass fishing out the back with the...

Looking for recommendation for a basic chartplotter

In my opinion all the units are pretty good. After price/budget I'd consider: 1. customer service/support (some manufactuers are great and others nightmares) 2. what/who's chart do you prefer (C-Map, Navionics, etc.) Also, look at the other displays the unit provides besides the chart...

    Just bought a 283 release--WHat electronics should i put???

One more point. All of the major manufactuers have good VHF radios. The devil in the detials is the antenna. I've always gone with Digital Brand atennas. They make a major difference and if you ever have to scream for help (mayday and hit the DSC) you going to want the best range and clarity...

    Just bought a 283 release--WHat electronics should i put???

For what it's worth here are my thoughts: Get the biggest display you can fit & afford. Modern electronics can provide so much relevant info that you'll want to see & use as much as possible. A great example is a fishfinder and chartplotter...see a fish or structure, hit the mark button on...

here it is http://www.birdsallmarine.com/outrigger ... p-186.html You could probably build your own out of sraps laying around but it is an interesting thought

    Running With Outriggers Extended

I've seen an attachment that you stick in the rod holder in your rocket launcher and it has a "Y" look to it. The outrigger then drops into it and it gives it more support. Not sure but it may have been on Birdsall's website (not sure I spelled that right)

    Transduce compatibility

Yes, No and maybe. From what I understand most transducers are made by Airmar (not sure of the spelling) so with the use of an adapter they should be capatable. I'd check with Airmar for background and because you never know when you'll get lucky but figure on tracking down a good, local...
