New motor prop and rpm questions

You're not horribly over-propped. I thought the range for that engine is 5k-6k wot. Where is your anti-ventilation (aka cavitation plate) relative to the water surface when trimmed out on a plane? If you are buried the revs will go up slightly when raised. I do hear lots of good things about...

    plastic wood trim looks lousy

Did this as a winter project - went with TotalBoat single stage polyurethane, Hatteras White. I removed the trim, sanded and primed followed by two coats finish using the roll/tip method.

Cat's Got into the Cuddy... NEED ADVICE!!!

When I bought my Gulfstream the cabin cushions were mostly missing - the PO said he tossed them after a kid pissed on them. I had a complete set fabricated by a local upholstery guy and dropped about $800 doing so. They came out great and still smell new after three years.

    96 232 tilt helm replacement

You do have the option of replacing the helm with a standard front-mount with the back-mount plate. It will bolt right up with no modification but you lose the tilt. I did that last year with my re-power, not due to a hydraulic leak but because the tilt mechanism had developed so much play - and...

    1991 232 Gulfstream Helm Modification

The VHF radio is in the upper box. That is a remote mic with a cable that runs from the dash panel to the upper box. I don't really need that but I like the remote mic since it has a speaker built in which makes it easier to hear when running at speed.

    1991 232 Gulfstream Helm Modification

I was able to fit a NSS12 evo2 into the dash. I had to remove the lower lip of the dash opening and mill out some space on the top. I made an aluminum dash panel and painted it black. The end result is pretty clean. It should be an improvement over the 7" unit I had inside the dash.

    radar dome

Not sure how the 228 hardtop differs from the 232 but I bolted my radar dome right to the hardtop and it works perfectly. There is a slight downward angle to the hardtop that levels out when running on a plane.

Gulfstream Hull Harness: Where Does it Come Out Up Front?

Re: Gulfstream Hull Harness: Where Does it Come Out Up Front On my '96 the two rigging tubes terminate under the helm and the best access is through the pry-out plate in the cabin (but the more recent hulls have a head there, right?). Once you get it in there you can run it up the chase to the...

    powder coating

It's all about the prep work. Anodized aluminum is pretty slick and without a serious sanding/etching of the surface no paint will adhere. Properly prepared and with the right primer, the right type of paint might actually stick and look good. Improperly done, it will start flaking off and look...

    powder coating

I once had the aluminum frame of a leaning post powder coated and it came out great. The issue with your hardtop frame is that the entire thing will have to be removed from the boat and separated from the hardtop, powder coated, and then re-installed. Not a trivial task... Powder coating...

INFO needed: 1990 GW 232 Gulfstream

They're great boats (though admittedly, I'm slightly biased). A 27 year old boat will need a thorough review and hopefully she was well maintained. Not necessarily 232-specific, considerations are electrical wiring, fuel tanks, hoses, bilge pumps, fuel lines, moisture intrusion, etc...

add tilt to helm steering wheel?

You'll need to replace the helm pump and then bleed the system. The tilt helm may require a different hole in the dash or at least an adapter to fit, depending on your current setup. The steering wheel should fit on the new helm.

Yamaha 150 Saltwater Series II Idle

Is that a carbureted engine? If so, a good cleaning and rebuild may be in order. Before I repowered I found the yamaha board to be extremely helfpul (and active): http://www.yamahaoutboardparts.com/forum2/

    Autopilot Install- '96 Gulfstream

I don't have an autopilot but I replaced the helm pump and hydraulic lines on my '96 Gulfstream last year. You should have plenty of room where the trim tab pump is and access from there for the hydraulic lines should be fine. You also might have space in the chase area behind the panel that is...

96 232 Gulfstream Transom Cooler Hatches

Had a great season with the 300 - lovin' it. Very happy with the Gulfstream and only have some "freshening up" projects for the winter.

96 232 Gulfstream Transom Cooler Hatches

Harpoon, I did this last year on my '96. I used 3/4 starboard in seafoam color and it is a nearly perfect color match. I bought the panels cut to size and used a router with a template bit to round the corners (using the original covers as a template) and then a quarter-round bit to put a round...

    Gulfstream 23 - etec g2 300

I did not consult with Grady on the re-power as the weight of the engine is 569 lbs which is less than the 3.3 liter F250. Everything bolted right up. The only modification was that the holes in the transom for the steering hoses were plugged since everything (fuel, battery cables, controls and...

    99 232G with Raymarine a128/Quantum 24mi/CPT120

That looks great! My 7" screen is just too small for my aging eyes - good to know a larger screen can fit. How much of the helm pod (if any) did you have to cut away?
