Do I need zincs on my trim tabs?

agree......not sure where you would put the zincs on the tabs and would create drag if placed on the bottom; i guess i f the zincs were small enough that that they did not encroach when in the full up position then maybe would work; i have never seen zincs on bennett tabs on any grady...

    DOCK BOXES

i think they are a rip-off if bought new.....they start around $450 for the smallest one and go up in price from there; lots more stuff to spend money on than a dock box....but hey, they are useful and would get a used one if i could for half the price; currently looking for a used...

    Shrinkwrap

appreciate all the advice; thank you! ....it is true that it should be a crime to charge that much (or any amount) for shrink removal especially if you also have a slip and store in the winter; guess the marinas are all trying to get as much revenue as they can so they can make up for the...

    Shrinkwrap

marina wants to charge me $10/foot to remove and dispose of shrinkwrap on my 282; i have let them do it in the past but now no way; was wondering if there is any technique to removing the shrink on my 2002 Sailfish with Twin F225s; obviously, don't want to damage anything! the marina used...

282 advice needed for a newbee

wow, so much to say..... don't know how familiar you are in general with boats (past ownership?), but i would get both an engine and hull survey done to begin with; if u r completely new to boating, then u should go with the surveyors opinions; in my experience, most hull surveys only...

    Battery Tenders

i think you will get lots of variations on what to do with batteries in winter -- some leave in boat and disconnect, some take home and let sit, some take home and charge once or twice, etc.; depends also on how old your batteries are and the temps at the location they will reside (i.e. in...

    Thru Hull Corrosion

the green corrosion stuff on the outside (and the inside) of the thru hulls.......when looking at the boat from the outside while on blocks... what is the best way to clean it / get rid of it? i assume the thru hulls (silver color when viewed while looking at the hull) are brass, true...

    Sailfish Winterizing

yep, you are absolutely right!! i did the same thing and after i opened up the seacocks to drain and then put in the pink, a bunch of saltwater came out of the baitwell / raw water wash b4 i saw the pink come out. proves there was more salt water in there after all even after draining by...

    Bottom paint question

i am a novice....how many coats of bottom paint will i need to apply in the spring? the boat has always been painted every season by marina, but thinking of doing it myself in spring 2010. boat has seen moderate use during 2009. -slugg.

    Sailfish Winterizing

that is fine for the raw washdown but the pump for the baitwell sits atop the thru-hull and i sure don't want to pull that off.....so best way is like the previous post said: get a plunger attachement.

    Noise on F225

one of my F225s on my sailfish makes a whining noise (sounds similar to a squeaky alternator belt or pulley on a car) after coming back to the dock after an outing. the noise is not loud and most times i cannot hear it unless i go back to the engine well. sometimes it makes the noise...

    Hydraulic Steering

sorry guys, i am a novice here: where would the fill cap / reservoir be located on a 282 sailfish...near/under the steering wheel? also, where is the cylinder shaft seals so i can grease....and what kind of grease should be applied? -slugg.

    Hydraulic Steering

not sure i follow....is my mechanic just being rude given that i have asked the "expert" a stupid question? by venting, are you implying that there will always be leakage and that it needs to be topped-off every year or.....? --slugg.

    Sailfish Winterizing

it looks as if i will have to buy some sort of doohickey that presses against the thru hull to suck up the pink stuff thru the baitwell and washdown while the boat is on blocks.....what kind of device is it and what does it cost? it seems like the above is easier than to remove the baitwell /...
