    New dash for 208 Grady

Moved the GPS down from the alum electronics box on the top. Was uncomfortable to use, and almost impossible to see the depth numbers (no way to change the font size). Took about 6 total hours of work, had to cut the alum bracket lower so the GPS would fit. Cut and re-spliced the NMEA 2000...

Plywood "rigging box" panels under helm

GW Voyager, The panels reach the deck, so if I cut an inch off the bottom it would leave a space off the floor, and that's going to be obvious. The sides facing the hull are not straight so lowering it would not work either. I called Grady CS today, the panel comes larger than needed and I...

Replacing Duratrim on a '91 Grady

I'm in the process of painting all of my duratrim with Krylon Fusion for Plastic, off white, first couple of coats satin, last couple of coats gloss. Washing the parts first with soap and a little bleach, but no sanding. Looks really good, but wondering if anyone has tried it and how it worked...

Plywood "rigging box" panels under helm

Moving my GPS down to what I call the "glove compartment". Tight fit, but it should work. To pull out the old cables, I took off the rigging box made of 2 wood panels imediately to the right of the step on the helm (where the hull load rating / max passenger / HP plate is located). The...

Dash material - clean / repair / replace

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser worked like a champ! Removed the black stains off the vinyl, looks almost new. Thanks to all.

    Battery Drain

Just remembered, my Yamaha FMS and related gauges (fuel consumption rate, boat speed, fuel tank level) do not power up if I pull the "accessory" fuse directly connected to the battery (port motor key also has to be on for them to work). Not sure if this is a common / accepted setup, but for...

    Battery Drain

Same thing happens to me but over a month or so. Used to pull all 3 fuses (2 bilge pumps + "accessory") when the boat is on the trailer. After a while I tried pulling only the "accessory" fuse and figured out that was the culprit. Not sure exactly what's drawing power yet, but at least for...

Dash material - clean / repair / replace

Re-doing the dash soon, moving all my instruments inside the "glove" compartment. Tight fit, but it will work. But first, the dash material is awful. Seems like a vinyl of some type. Can't get it clean, tried the usual (even BKF, I believe). Does anyone know what can be used to clean...

    "new" grady- 2003 257 advance-48 hours

Very nice looking boat. My 2 cents... Very low hours on the HPDIs, almost too low. I've been told more than once that not using a motor is not a good thing. Get it independently surveyed plus looked at by a Yamaha mechanic. You never know. Test the fuel system for Ethanol. Whatever...

    Scuppers on Voyager

On my boat, the hoses from the floor drains to the scupper valves on the port side look pretty beat up. Thinking of replacing them, but wondering if the hoses are bad, will plastic thru hull fittings likely need replacing? (which I'd rather not mess with at this point.) Re the starboard...

    Anchor setup

Re: Voyager 248 - Anchor stuck on bow pulpit I agree, I would not trust the tie straps. Actually I went through a bunch before I found the size / quantity that I'm using. My plan is to use as is most of the time. But if / when I'm anchoring overnight, or in bad weather, I'd cut the tie...

Yea or Nay on Replacing the Gas

Assuming the boat has not been run for 2 years, I would not only get rid of the gas, but have the tank cleaned, check the hoses, replace all filters, impeller, etc. etc. Will probably save you months of headaches.

    Anchor setup

Re: Voyager 248 - Anchor stuck on bow pulpit A final follow-up on this topic. After a few hit and misses, I found the setup that works for me. Removed the anchor roller, got it straight and clean. New anchor, swivel, chain, and old rope (wash, and lots of Downy). Rigged a steel wire to...

    Getting the Grady color back

Removing the old name and moving the reg numbers, the original color of the boat is obvious. The gelcoat needs work, no doubt, but I don't think it's that bad. Wondering if starting with rubbing compound has worked for you, or if wet sanding was needed. Thanks.

Cabin fan runs even when main switches are OFF

Today I replaced the cabin spotlight with a small fan. Install went great. The problem came when I turned OFF both of the main switches (2 batteries, 2 switches), and noticed the fan keeps running, much slower, but it's still running. Any ideas why that would happen? Doesn't seem right...

    Bottom damage - repair?

Hello all, My boat had bottom keel damage when purchased. Area in question is hard (no soft spots), and does not drip when I take it out of the water (no intrusion that I can tell). Should I: Fix the fiberglass / gelcoat on that area before bottom paint VS Just the bottom paint Not...
