Find a new shop. There are no computors to download anything on those motors. FWIW: The check engine light is a fuel restriction so you're running lean. Next sound you hear may be a boom if you don't resolve the issue.

It's possible that the anti-siphon valve is stuck open or has been removed. The pressure in the oil tank will feedback into the fuel lines if that check valve at the oil pump is stuck open. I've seen it happen before.

I see this is on an old Merc. Assuming you don't premix, I would look at the check valve at the oil pump and the one going out to the remote oil tank.

If it was water ingestion as you suspect most warranties exclude the damage from warranty coverage.

Garmin uses the same transducer and remote GPS module connector on all their units. The odds are you could reuse your existing transducer and remote GPS module if you have one. Now the power cable / interface is a different story.
