It’s probably an 86 engine too then. See the brochure I linked above for 1986 pages 10-11 look about right

    What HP Johnson is this?

Ok probably 150-200hp if it pushed an overnighter Looks a bit newer than this https://www.smalloutboards.com/j20081.htm Pretty similar to this evinrude from 94. (Johnson merged with evinrude at some point)...

    What HP Johnson is this?

I would guess anywhere from 115-150hp. Does it have 6 or 8 cylinders under the cowling? What size boat is it sitting on?

    2005 Tournament 205 Drain Issue?

Looks like the weight distribution of the boat is just preventing that last bit of water from getting into the drain? Seems like perhaps a small leak at the door? Did you have rain recently? Doesn’t seem to be water coming up from the drain, correct?

    Honda 250 taking a bath

Congrats on the new boat…take a picture of what you’re seeing, it’ll be easier to provide accurate feedback

    Towing a GW 235 with BMW X5?

Rent a Home Depot truck for the 2x per year, small price for peace of mind

    Seagull deterent?

Used to have a large army/navy net over the topside of our old center console. The net will flap a bit in the wind. Have found it to be the most effective over the years vs other methods

    Repower for Seafarer 228

Honda/Suzuki/mercury/Yamaha all have excellent reputations. I don’t think you will be unhappy whichever way you go, and you will enjoy the little extra hp

    Engine Trim not working?

Agree that your first item to check is if the oil level is enough in the reservoir to operate the trim. The seals may need to be replaced but if you fill up the oil again it may work for a while.

Name placement - transom or side?

this is correct for CA. There is a boater ID card requirement in CA - phased in based on operator age the past few years. I think it was a 4 hr online course, a fee, and ID in the mail.

    restoration pics.

Depends on the quality of the varnish. They will include inhibitors into the mixture designed for uv protection. https://thewoodwhisperer.com/articles/difference-between-spar-varnish-and-regular-varnish/

    restoration pics.

I’ve seen folks online use epoxy, so I hope it keeps that nice finish for you! I think one of the benefits of spar varnish (I use epifanes too) is that it can flex a little if the humidity changes or it gets wet. With your epoxy coats, it may be sealed well enough to avoid anyways

    232 vs 228?

Lucky - you ready for 8” of rain in Santa Cruz mountains? Hopefully no serious erosion or mudslides

    1985 Tournament 190

I’d try to get it for $5k or less and limit how much gets pumped into the boat, enjoy it how it is. If you know the guy you might offer to help him power wash the boat and get a closer look at things - is water flowing into the bilge from somewhere topside, has the gas tank ever been replaced...

    1985 Tournament 190

First - where are you located? I could easily see that being listed for $12k depending on condition and location. (I don’t mean to ask location to poach the listing you found) the reality is that many things could be at the point that need replacement soon if not maintained, or could break any...

    NE Boat Show

I see, although I think the same comment applies. Value isn’t just $ value for an item, what value can get placed on peace of mind, enjoyment, satisfaction of completing a project, stress relief, whatever

    NE Boat Show

the value is the utility of the boat, and the opportunity to do something else w the extra cash in bank. I think the value isn’t really the $ assigned to resale for the folks that repower
