Oil Pump problems on a Yamaha

With my on board oil tank, there is a small in-line filter in the hose right after the transfer oil pump that I had to replace. The toggle/bypass switch on the motor is strong enough to pull oil through the clogged in-line filter, but the oil won’t flow during normal ops with this clogged.

Happy Australia Day to Aussie Grady owners

Hey guys, This website is amazing. In case you don’t already know about it: http://www.vpike.com/ I was able to spend the afternoon driving around my Australian hometown of Melbourne, reminiscing. It’s been 10+ years. But, I also enjoyed “driving around” Townsville! Jekyl, I tried...

Happy Australia Day to Aussie Grady owners

Thank you, Jekyl. I find that so interesting and really appreciate the history. Thanks again. My respect also is at wide-open-throttle for such pioneers of all continents. I happen to be reading the memoir “South” by Ernest Shackleton about the Endurance voyage in Antarctica, and the...

Happy Australia Day to Aussie Grady owners

Happy Australia Day! One of my favorite Aussie expressions is: “Back of Burke”. It is a saying for something that is VERY far away. A bit of background…the N. W. American explorers of fame, Lewis and Clark, basically have an Australian equivalent known as the famous Burke and Wills...

Help finding Marine Surveyor in Oxnard/Burbank CA Area?

You can try the Marina Shipyard in Long Beach at (562) 594-0995. They may be able to refer you to a reputable surveyor in the area. (I just tried to call and ask myself, but they must be closed due to the T-storms.) All the best with your new Grady!

    Christmas boat ride

That sounds like some good time spent on the water! We are relatively lucky out here weather-wise, and are able to enjoy spectacular Christmas light boat-parades every year---for us in Long Beach and Newport Harbor. The water-front/ canal home owners really go to town with their Christmas...

Why do I need a bow Pulpit?

I thought the safe-rule was 1 foot of chain to match every foot of boat…up to a certain length? And, do any of you all actually drift-anchor overnight at sea with a sea anchor?

Why do I need a bow Pulpit?

Sorry for the late reply guys! The pvc pipe is just barely long enough to lodge in there. There’s so much going on with line and chain it just thankfully jams in and stays. The length is the key so that it just fits in... But, definitely another member’s idea. Thanks again Great Grady! I...

Happy Thanksgiving to all GREAT GRADY members

Thanks to you all for the knowledge and stories over the years. Carrying on a little from what magicalbill was saying, we wouldn’t have met Chris and the Chum-Along crew if it weren’t for this site-- except out and about locally maybe. Chris’s help and expertise with projects/advice has been...

Why do I need a bow Pulpit?

We have a slip and we anchor a lot and use the same Windline roller that Chris turned us on to. It works very well. (and the two 208s look awesome when side-tide---for whatever that's worth!) I also took the advice of another member here a while back and lodged about a 2.5 ft long by 4in...

So just how "unsinkable" are the Grady White boats

I second Grog on not leaving the boat in this situation. If it happened to be anchored and capsized, then you’d get a beating in rough seas ---like what happened to the NFL guys in Florida early this year. (They tried to retrieve their stuck anchor by tying it off to a stern cleat, gunning the...

Still glad you "Got the Grady?"

Off Duty, that’s such a nice Grady. You’ve made a similar jump in size to the one we intend to make in the coming years…from our beloved 208 to a Sailfish. I’m excited about having a hardtop someday and the platform that provides. I guess I could add one to Vedette, but then would want to...

Still glad you "Got the Grady?"

I mostly ride just to commute to and fro the office (and marina believe it or not) and home. Now, if they were all in one, I wouldn’t be peddling around town like Kermit the Frog. But it’s the only way I can stay fit, and it keeps the car parked…where it belongs…for around town stuff. I get...

Still glad you "Got the Grady?"

I get it now....lol !! but to continue... we are on a 10+ year plan. And please note, I'm dreaming...while owning my own dream-boat, a 208. I love our boat! I/we have no garantor and no piggy bank or trust fund. The catch could be that we don't have kids....and this allows us to rearrange...

Still glad you "Got the Grady?"

Jekyl, I’ve read that a properly maintained Gardner diesel can do something like 55,000 hours, or the equivalent of 11 circumnavigations, before needing an over-haul. (from 'Voyaging Under Power' 3rd edition, Beebe/Leishman) And, “keeping it simple stupid” is the idea for sure! Combine...

Still glad you "Got the Grady?"

Great post to read! I love our 208 and even kiss her on the hull from time to time. She handles very well in crummy seas for her size, and is more stable than others in her class for sure. After 3 years and many multiple night stays on her, my wife and I now have 8ft itis and I’m focusing on...

    Evinrude E-Tec any opions ?

Richie, I have heard about the Military Spec Etecs. They are designed to be able to run on whatever the transport ship happens to be fueled by (obviously).... They are made with a once-off-use in mind, and I think I read that they can be just about submerged for a time?
