This is a well documented design defect with this vintage F225s. I had the cancer on mine last year after 600hours. There is an ongoing class action lawsuit against Yamaha for the systemic design defect. It is likely to happen to just about every motor made in the 03 -05 era.

Perhaps it was running too lean, or the fuel octane level was too low? Is it carbureted or injected?

Try applying some heat. If it's 5200, the heat will soften it. -not too much or you'll start a fire!

I have a 2003 Marlin. The pump is located in the Lazarett/bilge area at the Starboard quarter. I hope that this helps. By the way you need to be a midget to get to it. My ten year old grandson is the perfect size!

There is an adjustment screw on the bottom of the pump that regulates the cutoff pressure.

I get 1.3 mpg @ 25kts. 300 Marlin 2 x F225 and all tanks full. I can get 2.0 mpg at 5 kt sailboat speed!

I found that if you "prime" the motor from the flush attchment until it starts peeing, then quickly put the muffs on, it will run and continue peeing. Marlin 2 X F225

I found tackle trays at Walmart for my '03 300 Marlin - short money. Bring your ruler. I ended up with Flambeau /Zerust boxes but you could also use Plano. Good luck

Just got an email from the local Grady dealer. Yamaha tech recommends replacing the exhaust. I will have them do the oil pumps and vst's as well. thanks to all for the advice. Ouch! I will wait for the $ damage to come in before notifying Boat US. Ouch! Slacktime

Thanks for the responses so far. I plan to bore scope it when the weather gets a little warmer to collect more data. Also sent the photos to the Grady Dealer who has forwarded tham to the Yamaha tech. I will post the outcome.
