Tips needed - Windlass nut removal

I just threw out all my old parts and windlass spares for the Horizon 500 windlass on my 1997 GW 289 Islander. Parts no longer available. Consider a Lewmar ProFish 700. The Horizon windlass is junk!

Flush Mount Remote Control Freedom 205

Works every time! But seriously - I have a Rinker with Volvo Penta inboard. Similar problem - no access. I got the shift unit loose and worked it to the speaker hole. Not ideal. You may be able to pull the shifter back toward the cockpit. I would imagine the factory feeds that assembly forward...

    2004 300 Marlin "console"

NewWire panels are acrylic. Mine are "fake" carbon fiber. Look great and are much cheaper to produce. My 8612xsv chartplotter mounts differently. Starboard panel fitted to lower radio box opening with serious rework. Second chartplotter in overhead.

Take a look at www.newiremarine.com and their custom panels. If there is a panel there now they can replicate dimensions. Photo's and your location would help others help you.

I will start here, Florida Guys & Gals some help would be appreciated

I'm pretty sure it's not legal to swim or play with them. Not legal to give them water from a hose either. I'm in the Keys during the winter (Islamorada January/February/March +/- a few weeks). We see them occasionally in the canal where we stay. We went on a tour in Key Largo on the canals a 10...

    Boat Wax

I use this on my AwlCraft 2000 paint finish. AwlCare polymer sealer. Works really well. Goes on like liquid wax, doesn't dry hard, wipe off and polish out with clean towel. No buffing necessary or recommended. Doesn't get much easier. After a days fishing we don't use a detergent cleaner. Rinse...

WTB Garmin 24 Fantom Dome Radar

The 943xsv's are not being discounted by reputable Garmin dealers! Garmin is very deliberate to protect it's dealer's margins. And the dealers fall in line because it's good for them. Maybe a couple of flakey unauthorized resellers. Take a look... Garmin implements a unilateral Minimum Retail...

    Richie HF-73

Ritchie doesn’t recommend self repair. It’s a loosing proposition. They sell a kit with diaphragm, fluid and seals. Sometimes it’s the UV exposed dome that leaks. They fill at the factory in a vacuum to get the air out of fluid. They also vacuum and pressure test the repaired housing. Call...

Anodes are due. Interesting experiment - get a gram scale and weigh old ones and new ones.

    Corrosion of trim pump

The pump doesn't look good. If it were mine I would plan on it. Unusual run around top seal. Looks like it was hit with something scraping the paint off down to bare metal.

    Help a GW Newbie - De-winterization

If you have access to a hose and a power outlet I would do a few things first. Charge the battery. Put a set of "rabbit ears" on the lower unit and turn the hose on. Pump up fuel bulb. Try to start it. Don't run for more than a minute on "rabbit ears" - sometimes they overheat - but a short...

    Freedom 325 Garmin Radar Recommendations

I have a GMR Fantom 18 on my 268 Islander with 8612xsv, 8610xsv, GPS 24xd, no autopilot. For your size boat I would go with a 24" GMR Fantom 24x dome optionally on a pedestal mount for increased performance. $2,999.99. The open arrays are significantly more expensive and are 48". If you are...

WTB Garmin 24 Fantom Dome Radar

For your size boat I would stay with 18 dome. I have a GMR Fantom 18 on my 268 Islander. The GMR Fantom 18 and 24 are discontinued. You may be able to find one discounted. Personally I would go with a GMR Fantom 18x optionally on a pedestal mount. $2,199.99. You won't see a current model...

    1995 islander captains chair repair

It's not going to be easy to find the chair slides. My experience was ordering parts and sending them back. Search won't bring up much. I think I found them from Springfiels and even then they weren't right - hacked them to make them work. The bushing is easier but I had a few that were the...

    1995 islander captains chair repair

The plastic slides and bushing don't look that bad. Usually that are busted up and in pieces. The slides are impossible to find. You can find the bushing easier but sizing it can be difficult. I would replace the complete spyder slide. Look at Springfield Marine (a Bass Pro subsidiary in...
