What HP would you RePower 99 209 Escape?

I have a 225 honda on my 1996 209. I repowered 2 years ago. It works well but trim tabs are a must.

    Gradywhite 1997 209 Escape

I may also be concerned about so few hours. I would rather have a motor be run more then just sit but that's my opinion. We probably had 1500 or so hours when our 200 went and have 125 hrs on the honda in a year and a half.

    Gradywhite 1997 209 Escape

I have the same boat that had a 200 yamaha 2 stroke. Repowered with 225 honda 2 years ago. The boat handles rough water pretty well but is a little short. I mainly run in the chesapeake bay but have been out 6 or so miles in the ocean. I have felt very safe in the boat but just wish it was a...

What battery do you have for your four stroke?

I am getting ready to replace batteries in my 209. I am going to go with group 27's but should I get one starting and one dual purpose? I have a switch where I can got to battery 1, 2, or both. The motor is a 225 honda and I drift a lot with electronics on and run livewell with motor off.

    209 Escape Repower question

I've got a 97 209 and the 225 honda cowling will hit the rubrail when tilted up. It has left a cosmetic scar from when trailering and the motor turned to one side. When the motor is down there is no problem though. I lay the motor a little to one side when up and use ratched straps on the...

    209 Escape Repower question

I would say it is underpowered if you want to run more then 40 mph or you run in rough water and need extra hp to motor through waves. I would not want any less than a 200 hp four stroke. A 200 hpdi would give you the same speed as a 225 four stroke and still this will not be any speed demon...

    209 Escape Repower question

I repowered a couple years ago and I believe you can use the same controls but I would replace steering if I could afford it. I replaced controls because I went with a Honda but I thought about the 200 hpdi because it would have been much cheaper.

    19 tournament VS 22 Tournament

I have owned a 19 tournament and it is a nice boat. The 225 feels much bigger as I have been on one. As far as the engines go, the 250 hpdi was Yamaha's nightmare engine. I talked to a friend of mine the other day who just blew his up again with just under 100 hours. Yamaha wants to give him...

    Repower 1999 209 Escape

Just remember the 4 stroke is about 25 hp slower then the 2 stroke. I had a 200 yamaha 2 stoke and the performance with the 225 4 stoke is the same. Same top speed but a little faster cruise with the 4 stroke.

    Repower 1999 209 Escape

I have a 97 escape that I repowered with a 2005 honda 225. I have put 80 hours on it so far and the extra weight is not an issue. Scuppers are above water but I installed trim tabs and hydralic steering. Tabs are a must though to get the bow down in rough water.

    Engine problem

I second TunaT. I was running last weekend back from a 2 hour run and my 2005 225 honda started sputtering and lost a lot of power. I keep a filter wrench in the boat so I popped off the filter, drained it, and kept on going. With the new fuel out there I would always keep a spare water...

    Decal Replacement

I ordered mine from a dealer. I believe the large grady white decals were $45 a piece and the striping was sold by the foot. Can't remember the price.

    Compass problems

Plymouthgrady I didn't see a brass piece that it came with. I didn't even think about checking the bearing before and after I placed it at the helm. I think I am just going to try to check between the gps and compass next time I run the boat.

    Compass problems

I wish I had know this. I just replaced my compass yesterday. I popped out the old one and just put in a new one. Do you think it will get a true reading? I have thrown away the old one. Thanks, Matt

MPG, prop, and hole placement questions on 208 F225 combo

I just repowered a 209 with a 225 honda and my top end is 43. I was expecting something near 50 but it will not get close. I cruise at 4400 rpm burning 12 gph running about 35 mph. My prop is a 14 1/4 by 19 but I am going to try a 14 1/4 by a 17 to get my rpm's up. These hulls are not made...

    trim tab

I just purchased M120's for a 209 a couple weeks ago. The cost to purchase with tax was $540 and then a dealer wanted $300 to install but I found someone else that did it.

    209 escape

sea leggs- I just installed the m120's on my boat. I went with 10x12's. I have not run the boat yet but the size looks perfect.

    209 escape

I would go with the 200. I recently repowered with a 225 honda and I would not want much less motor. But also have a t-top and curtains which is wind-resistant so if you do not you can get by with less motor.

    Prop question

The only prop that I could put my hands on today is a 141/2 by 15 so I am going to run it either today or tom to see what I need.
