First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Headed out San Diego bay today with the new 14.75 x 19" prop which I found on EBay for $50. Not a bad deal for a ss prop but I did have a new hub installed for good measure. Anyway With 1/2 tank and 1 passenger my numbers are much better. 4000 cruise 25mph 5800 wot 40 mph I also had an...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Thanks, What's weird is that the motor would still rev to 6000 WOT. Shop seemed surprised too, seems like most of the time its all or nothing with the prop. Couple pics note marks on inner and outer hub.

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

GPS does both. I reset the values to mph based on what others have said for the testing. I may have found the culprit however. After indexing the prop, I removed it today and my scribe marks have indeed moved a full 180 degrees from the prop hub. My local prop shop has a 14.75 diameter by 19"...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

New #'s today on the lake. Flat conditions, just myself and 1/2 tank gas and optimal trim. 4000 rpm cruise. 22.6 mph 5000 rpm. 26.6 mph 6000 rpm wot 35.6 mph Numbers from GPS. Foam behind livewell and fishbox is dry. I indexed my prop and hub the day before so I will remove it tomorrow...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Now that is very revealing. It would appear that I am way overloaded. I tried to let it dry out for several days before resealing everything. Is it even possible for these boats to absorb that much water? My local fiberglass guy offered to check it out and do a moisture reading. I better take...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Just got off the phone with Grady and according to their records back in the mid 90's, the 208s with Yams ran with a 13.75" x 17" prop. Mine is 15" x 17"

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

I guess that is another possibility to consider. It does have a wet transom but no stress cracks on the transom. When I put in the new transducer and resealed the trim tabs, I had some dirty water come out of the screw holes. A reputable fiberglass shop told me to keep an eye on it and to watch...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Tried to optimize the trim and According to the prop slip calculator, rough estimate shows 53% slippage. 17" prop, 3800 rpm, gear ratio 1.86, 18 mph on GPS. Will retest again as soon as I can get back on the water.

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Also regarding the weight issue, wow your not kidding. We went out with a full tank of gas and my bait tank only 1/2 full which is about 150lbs and is centered at the back of the cockpit. Me and my buddy were making bait and the macs that fell off the sabiki were swimming in the back of the...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Cruise revs are right around 3800-4000. Gear ratio for a 1993 Johnson 200 from what I have researched is 1.86. I am going to test again next week with 1/2 tank fuel but it seems like I am off by 10mph at cruise with similarly configured 208's Could the throttle linkage to the carbs be messed...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Thanks great info here! Ok so I took her out with a buddy today off San Diego coast. Winds were 20-30mph chop 2-4's. Cruise was actually a bit slower at about 17 knots in these conditions. I did mess around with the trim quite a bit trying to find that sweet spot. Since my results were similar...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Thanks for the tips, I will go and measure the prop, I think i s stainless steel. As far as the trim goes excuse my ignorance since this is my first boat. I just trimmed it all the way down, are you saying that I should bring it up some and if so how much typically? With a full tank that's...

First day on the water w 208, cruise speed off ?

Had a great time with the maiden voyage on my 1993 208 adventure. Launch and retrieval went pretty smooth. I took her to a local lake to test things out. The only thing that seemed unusual was that at cruise around 3800 rpms my Garmin GPS was only showing 18.5 knots ? Boat is powered with a...

    Electronics Upgrade

Just went through this process with my 1993 208. After much research I decided to go with the proven Garmin 740s plotter/ff. Solid unit, intuitive and touch screen with an Airmar P66 ducer $150. $799 for the Garmin seemed like a good deal. Upgraded to 3d vision for $100. Chose the Standard...

    Replacing breakers on fuse panel?

Thanks guys, some good advice. The OEM breakers say E T A on them as the manufacturer but I did not see a size for amperage. Will double check that though. All.the original breakers appear to be the same size in dimension.. I am in the process of changing all my lights over to LED as well. Will...

    Replacing breakers on fuse panel?

In the process of rewiring my 1993 208. I would like to replace the push button breakers on the fuse panel with a Blue Seas equivalent but there is no indication on amperage with the OEM breakers. Should I go 5,10 or 15 amp,? The panel switches are for nav lights, livewell, bilge, wiper, horn, and...

Problem installing new fuel fill line in Grady 208

I'm going to have to surrender on this one, I am going to tow it to the dealer in a couple hours. I almost had fished the rope through from the tank to the starboard side fuel fitting with fish tape then I dropped my magnetic pickup tool and it disappeared into the fuel line black hole. :jaw A...

Problem installing new fuel fill line in Grady 208

Absolutely no luck today trying to thread some flexible conduit attached with rope through the fuel fill area. Will 5ry fish tape or the auger next. Maybe I will need to make some new access holes to line the new hose up? Pic of tank, old fill and my rope attached to conduit

Problem installing new fuel fill line in Grady 208

Yes the auger I am referring to is essentially a drain snake. I will try this and/or some thiner hose tied with twine and will attempt to feed it all the way to the tank. Reattach the new hose using the method described above. Will try to post some pics tomorrow of my progress.
