    E-Tec 300 on 255 sailfish

yea i read that article it had some good info on the engine in it. kinda curious to see some pics of a similar hull with same size engine in single application as im still not sure if the lack of that second engine and aux tank will cause it to be bow heavy now. :hmm

    E-Tec 300 on 255 sailfish

yea i posted a few pics of the boat prior to the work that has been done. I just bought a 60 hp etec for my boston whaler katama and love that engine. its terrific on power and fuel so i don't think i will have a problem with the 300 as far as performance and weight are concerned. the only place...

    E-Tec 300 on 255 sailfish

i would imagine it is close to the 255 maybe a few hundred lbs less overall. the max for the sailfish is 400HP so i should be in the sweet spot with a single 300 propped out correctly.

its about 840 lbs for the pair of 150's and the 300 tips the scale at 528. so im saving 312 lbs by opting for the single also not to mention all of the gear that goes with it, oil tank, extra fuel lines and filters...etc.

    E-Tec 300 on 255 sailfish

yea the transom was about to fail at the corners in the notched section due to the seam that GW built the boats in the era with. other than that it was actually still sound and fairly dry everywhere else. since i wanted to re power anyway i felt it was worth it. the shop i brought the boat to i...

    E-Tec 300 on 255 sailfish

I think dry the 87 sailfish is 4800# or so not including engines. so with the 300 i expect to be around 5900-6000 with a single fuel tank configuration. ill post pictures of the boat in the spring once i can get it back and prepped for the summer.

    E-Tec 300 on 255 sailfish

I was quote a little over 23000 for the 300 ETEC 30'' shaft installed with ICom and electric shift/ throttle. they were also throwing in the 6 year warranty as well.

    E-Tec 300 on 255 sailfish

yea i had the entire transom removed and rebuilt from the inside. also had the top side completely enclosed instead of that stupid seam that GW used which as most of us know is a perfect way for water to ruin the transom. I had an older set of 175 VRO's on there and the boat sat fairly low in...

    E-Tec 300 on 255 sailfish

Just finished rebuilding the transom on my 255 sailfish and have decided to go with a single 300 E-tec. does anyone have experience with this combination i have heard mixed things about the torque from an engine this size on the transom. For what its worth the dealer doing the work swears this...

Here's an update on the boat. I ended up buying the boat and managed to get it in the water both engines running...surprisingly. however i had multiple issues with the engines ranging from flywheels having the magnets drop out to a starter shearing the mounting bolts off the block. I had the...

that number seems a little high considering i would do all of the work on my own. i figure if the boat needs a transom rebuild and fuel tanks i will be looking at 4500 to 5000. though of course it can go much higher if it ends up needing new stringers but at that point i would just cut my losses...

did you pay that much just for the tanks or for the entire job? im not too concerned with removal of the tanks and installing new ones but i would like to find a place to make the tanks that wont light my wallet on fire

Everyone keeps mentioning how much the tank replacement costs with this hull and it seems a little high. has anyone replaced both tanks and what did you replace them with. i have seen plenty of forums debating the new plastic tanks vs Aluminum.

Well as long as the engines are not seized from sitting to long or have major internal wear or damage that will not be an issue as i have the tools and skill set to rebuild/repair the engines. I have heard that this hull has a tendency to pound in a head on sea is this true or does the hull do...

    1986 GW Sailfish 255

I am hoping that the transom will be in good condition but if its not i have done fiberglass work in the past just not to this scale before. the main question is being that this hull is not the SV2 hull is it still worth going to the effort. I have never actually taken one of these hulls out in...

Has anyone used a composite material in place of the marine plywood to redo the transom or is it best to stick with the wood?
