1986 grady white 24 offshore needs main fuel tank

I was happy with my recent tank purchase from Florida Marine Tanks. They were the oem manufacturer as far as I know. I made a thread a while back about my single 93 gallon tank which may help you a bit.

24' Tournament spring refresh (very pic heavy)

I used the 3 step Starbrite system and a wire brush on step 1. I actually think the teak could benefit from another coat of oil at this point in the season.

    Custom Bimini Top

I'm looking to get a canvas top (possibly with a window setup) for my 243 dual console. I'm not sure if they ever made an OEM one for this boat, but if they did, I'm not having any luck sourcing one. How do I go about ordering something like this? Any reputable vendors online? thanks

24' Tournament spring refresh (very pic heavy)

Thanks again for the kind words! We have had it out a handful of times now and it's performed flawlessly. Cgmiller: I actually got the decal set off of eBay based on a recommendation I think I found on here. The guy I got them from is based in MA and shipped them promptly. Reinstalling them...

24' Tournament spring refresh (very pic heavy)

Yeah, she was pretty cool with most of the time I took. There were a few days in there when I was pushing my luck :) She managed to find a few shopping days that helped make up for any extra time I took

24' Tournament spring refresh (very pic heavy)

Ughhh! That would have helped so much! I will make sure to use that tip next time around. Greatly appreciated. @Action_Jackson: I used 5/4 azek composite boards to secure it and give support to the hatches. It seems like the perfect solution since it can't rot and is every bit as strong as...

24' Tournament spring refresh (very pic heavy)

I bought this boat at the end of the last season knowing it would need some work in order to get it to a point where I could be "proud of it". It was very solid and seaworthy, but I really wanted to work on the cosmetics of it and make it as factory fresh as I could. The one real area of concern...

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

All set! I finally finished it up last night and made sure to put the batteries in and test the signal before I closed the deck back up. It is definitely registering as being completely empty :) Next up is redoing the non skid. thank you all for the help!!!!

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

I appreciate the advice on the epoxy, but I have decided to skip this step. The tank I pulled out was labelled 1984 and was original to the boat. The holding area was surprisingly dry and there was very little corrosion on the tank in general. I have used marine tex on all the old screw holes...

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

Tim, Luckily for me, there is a 6 inch access port in the floor of the compartment under the helm. I was able to lay on my stomach (feet toward bow, head towards stern) with my left arm in that hole, while my right arm was pushing the hose 1/4 inch at a time, my left arm would pull 1/4 at a...

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

I had the same issue with the vent loop :D Well, those two lines are in. I never even realized I had another entire access panel that was easily removable. It made the job fairly easy and I was able to take the old stuff out and put the new stuff in in about 2 hours. Tomorrow I'm hoping to...

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

ok the picture with my daughter in it shows a door to the side of the helm where I have fairly decent access. I can get contort myself enough to get my shoulders in there, but it will not be comfortable for any stretch of time. I assume I will pull the lines from the fuel tank compartment...

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

Thanks! It sure looks like tomorrow is going to be no fun. Is there an "easier" direction to try and feed the lines? Should I even bother trying to pull the lines through as the old ones are getting pulled out? They seem to be in pretty good condition so for now I don't think they will...

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

Well, it's out. I had to do some grinding on all 4 sides, but it was pretty minimal. Proud to say I took it out with zero help....much easier once my daughter stopped dancing on it. I'm going to tackle the fuel lines tomorrow.

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

Scratch that. Rear supports are out and the tank is free. It looks like the sides are what may need to be trimmed. It's so close to fitting out, but its a few mm off it seems

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

Ok, the deck plate is off, 3 sections of supports are off, and I hand pumped 25 gallons of gas out. Now how the heck do I remove this thing? It's wedged in really tightly. I think I either need to trim some fiberglass up front or remove the two 2x4 supports towards the stern. I'm leaning...

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

Thanks Robert When I ordered the tank from FMT (OEM Grady Manufacturer that GW told me to go with), they said to skip coating it. They themselves didnt charge all that much to do it, so I was actually really gung ho about having them coat it before they shipped it to me and they seemed to hard...

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

While I am up to my neck taking the boat apart, should I put a fuel flow meter in? Better question, can I put it in with my motor setup or is it too old? thoughts or brands worth looking at?

Getting ready to install my new fuel tank

Thanks Tim! I think I am going to get going with this project on monday, so I am sure plenty of questions will pop up on my end. I read a few threads where some cutting was required to get the fill line out. I never saw pictures of what was actually cut, but I know its not completely unusual...
