i just picked up a northstar m121 for 1230 shipped, and the thru hull for 190 shipped. didnt get the radar yet, but for a 12 inch screen and the flush transducer its hard to beat. the screen is also 3 inches deep only. and 1k? do you see yourself in 2000 feet of water?

just replace it...the walls are structural and after 20 years are total junk. alittle bit of money now and you will never have to mess with it again. im re doing everything at the helm with starboard. bought the door off ebay for 60 bucks including the lock assembly and key (new old stock)...

go for it. we are wrapping up the same project on a trophy pro. tanks were able to be saved, fitted new (to us) engines, rewired the entire boat. we saved a ton of money and the self satisfaction is overwhelming. dont forget, you have a WEALTH of information here, this site is the reason...

honestly take the entire assembly off, use a parts bin or a paint tray or something similar to ensure not losing any parts and clean them entirely. the idle orfices are very small and clog extremely easy. the newer style brown gaskets started in the early 90's on the rudes i believe.

our trophy pro had the same setup....so i removed the head and filled the hole in the hull....no more wives on fishing trips :lol:

absolutely change the water pump. buy the thermostats (2 per) and change them out. inspect the water lines to the housings also. cover the whole cooling system in one pop. its all fairly cheap. also note, to change the waterpump you need to drop the lower housing. this means...
