    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

I'm sure we'll get it closed next Friday. Its just a matter of pulling all the pieces and people into the same room at the same time. I'm really looking forward to spending lots of time fishing and cruising Casco bay. We lived in Cape Elizabeth when i was very young but my dad got transferred...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

we are closing next Friday. The marina is going to fix all the defects noted in the survey and I'm going to have them do the mid sections so thats not a concern going forward. We had planned to close tomorrow but had to put it off until next week. IT sounds as if we are using the boat for the...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

Rob, Im hoping we find the cabin as liveable as you do. We'd really like to weekend regularly, and hopefully get into the longer trips similar to your great lakes voyage. I like the notion of occasionally staying in a hotel for a chance to reset for a night or two, thats a great way to handle a...

Jamato, Thanks for the offer of your mechanincs contact info, feel free to PM it to me for future reference. The boat is in Portland at Port Harbor and they are a certified Yamaha dealership. We droppped the lowers and found the very beginning stages of the corrosion but I'm working with the...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

Thanks for the pictures they are very helpful. I reviewed some pictures I had taken of the boat I'm looking at and I saw the hatch in the mid berth aft bulkhead. I had only seen the side of the tank from the hatch below the center of the mid berth where the sea cocks for the head are and the...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

did you access the holding tank from the mid berth side or did you have to remove the cover for the fuel tank and go at the holding tank from the aft side? Good news that the macerator was outside the tank, i was thinking it was inside the tank based on something i read somewhere.

All the sales folks are in Fort Lauderdale at the boat show. When they get back we are going to sit down with the surveyors report and discuss the findings and see what they are willing to do in terms of bringing the items back into working condition. I'm sure most of it is from lack of use but...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

it went reasonably well. we found the beginning of the exhaust corrosion in both mid sections; its not un expected and at 185 hours its not too bad yet but its not going to go away. Sea trial went very well, the boat rode great, there was a little chop, maybe 2 feet and probably 20 knots of wind...

the engine scoping and the survey / sea trial is going to happen today. Im hoping it all goes well as this is a very nice low hour boat. I'll post up the results when i get back!

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

I’m asking to have the engines on the boat I’m considering scoped, while I’m there so I can see for myself. I’ve seen many posts by folks who have had issues but like seemingly everything on the net, the folks who have had a good experience dont post about it. I’d love to see a number that...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

I’m working with Ron and I having a good experience with them as well. Do you slip your boat with them as well? I’m planning on keeping it with them and would like to hear about how that aspect of the marina business works for people.

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

Thats my plan , Im just hoping to make sure im closing the deal on a boat with sound engines. Its a very nice boat with low hours but its not the only boat out there. All i want is for it to be proven to me that its not subject to a malady thats known to afflict these engines. i'm confused on...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

I’m kind of stuck using the marina where the boat is being sold, there’s no trailer and even if there was my 1/2 ton truck wouldn’t get very far with this boat. I asked the sales guy and he basically told me not to worry that with such low hours there wouldn’t be a problem. I’ve already...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

this is why I’m asking about overnighting on this boat, I’m going to fish this boat a good bit and a cruiser with blood and bait in the carpet isn’t going to work either. It’s obviously a small cabin so I’m wondering how useful it is when 2 adults attempt to stay aboard. I’m not sure exactly how...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

Thanks for the information on the fan to ventilate the cabin and the heads up on the cushions. Its nice to hear you've gotten the number of hours on your 225 Yamaha's , any secret to your longevity?? I think i've hammered out the deal on the boat, pending sea trial and a survey we are moving...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

Thanks for the links to the surveyors, there one right down the road from where the boat is that looks like a good fit. I’ll definitely look to get the engines scoped and confirm the status of the exhaust, I don’t think the thermostat housings can be scoped but I’ll ask that they get checked...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

the marina that is selling this boat took it in on trade. They were the original selling dealer for the boat but I’m told that a different marina did the maintenance for the owner as he resided a bit further up the coast. I asked and there is no ownership relationship between the 2 marinas but...
