Pics from a few bottom bumbing trips

Jumpnjack, That snap went #24, and I was lucky enough to get one last month out of St. Augustine that went around #28 or better on another boat. It's a shame we are getting ready to lose this fishery for a while, the snapper bite in our area has been great the last 3-4 years. Renovator

Pics from a few bottom bumbing trips

Have had some decent bottom trips this spring/summer and a few good trolling trips also, a couple of grouper a couple of snapper and a few 'phins for grins Summer is slipping away too fast, good fishing folks.

    Upgraded Windlass

I upgraded to the Lewmar Profish 1000 freefall unit and have been pleased so far, plow style anchor with the 8 plait line (600') works well for me. In my case I had to upgrade the wiring.

    More AP 26 woes

Well to start another thread, I am having issues with my AP26. I keep getting the "Rudder Response Failure" code after a few minutes of operation. A little history, when I purchased this boat last year the AP was not working properly. AP would turn motors hard over to port when placed in auto...

Rate this deal**MY BOAT SEARCH THREAD**

Bama96, Seems like a fair deal to me. I purchased an '05 282 in Oct. of '08 with 200 hrs. and an excellent electronics package. All of the fishing goodies I wanted, F225's, and a well maintained boat to boot. I had it surveyed and the broker had to repair a few items the owner was not aware...

    Trim indicator quit working?

Yep, easy fix. Thanks. Now the macerator pump for the head is out, I'll need to find that little bugger. It is blowing the 30A fuse and it was just replaced by the broker when I purchased 8 months ago.

    Trailer Recomendations?

I went with a trip axle RoadKing and it was a fairly easy tow from NC to FL when I made the boat purchase. Trailer is rated at #13,500 and my F250 pulled it fine.

    Trim indicator quit working?

Starting out on yesterdays fishing trip and noticed that the port engine trim indicator was not working, would only show one bar at the bottom on the gauge. Is the sensor mechanical or electronic? I did not get a chance to check it out when we returned but will look at it Tues. or Wed. Not sure...

    Bottom bumping off NE FL

A little late with the report but botom bumped in about 115'-135" twwo weeks ago right at the full moon. Current was honking and the fishing was slower than normal but after a long day finished with a couple of red snaps, some pinkies, triggers, one red grouper and 4 scamps. Beautiful day on...

    Benefits of Auto Pilot?

They say the shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line so I would think fuel burn would be improved some as well, especially on long runs.

    Gulfstreem /windlass How to

Bow pulpit is factory, I just covered up the hole where the previous windlass was installed. I installed a pivoting roller boom on my prior Shamrock and it was truly "self launching", I would think the roller would do just fine. With my current set up I do have to get someone to push anchor...

    Gulfstreem /windlass How to

Sure, see the following pics A tip, Be sure to place the rocker switch in a comfortable position as you will be standing with one hand at the wheel and the other hand/fingers will have constant pressure on the switch to activate it. It will take a little bit of time to recover several...

    Gulfstreem /windlass How to

Rustuy bolts, I just recently finished installing a Lewmar free fall on my Sailfish and did just as above but I used a piece of 3/4" Starboard in Seafoam and made a replica of the anchor locker lid instead. The factory installation is to far forward in my boat in my opinion, for best...

    Tow Vehicle for Larger Boats

I purchased a used '05 282 this past fall and towed it from Wilmington NC to NE Fla with my F250 Diesel (no dually) and it performed better than I anticipated. I was fortunate enough to get a new tri-axle RoadKing trailer that was rated for #13,500 in the deal and she towed very well IMHO. Of...

    What type of spare prop?

Plymouthgrady, ya know I thought about that. Would it work if you only had one spare prop and reversed the motor if the wrong prop failed. Might be a silly question but maybe it could work a low speeds. Hummm, points to ponder.

    What type of spare prop?

Yeah, Roger that on the Sea Tow. I have had it for about 12 years now and only had to be towed in once, it is good piece of mine. A spare prop has saved my butt on two previous occasions but than again that was with a single O/B. I am not going to worry to much about it but if I come across a...

    What type of spare prop?

What type of spare prop do you guys keep on the boat? or should I worry about one with twins. With the exception of my Shammie I have always kept a spare prop on other boats but those were single O/B's. With c/r 225's I assume you would need a LH and RH prop? I 'm not sure of what prop is...

    water in the bilge

I recently purchased an '05 Sailfish and have also noticed the front bilge discharging a bit more water than I would expect from time to time and I believe my water is coming from the livewell getting full and sloshing in between the livewell liner and deck. The inner top of my livewell is not...

    Accuracy of Yamaha FMS?

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking that the FMS may be set for statue miles instead of nautical miles as my GPS is. That would explain some of the difference. Based on my GPS I was getting less than 1 nm per gallon on my last trip (4 guys, gear, 1/2 fuel tank) seas had a 2-3' chop and a little...

    Accuracy of Yamaha FMS?

How accurate do you guys find the Yamaha fuel management system to be with respect to fuel burn rate(mpg/gph) and total fuel burn as shown on the gauge? The reason for my question is that on my boat if the total fuel burned is correct, the actual mpg is considerably less based on the trip miles...
