    How to remove dome-light lens

Capt Bill- does the dome light have a "white" and a "red" light or just the red for night vision? Reason for my question is that mine only has the red light working.

    Windlass wiring effecting electronics

Gary M- no roller but yes I do everything else but the slight engine rev. Bob P- decided to run new pos/neg straight to battery and switch, figured while I was pulling wire why not and was not hard to do I might add. These rigging tubes and locations are much superior to other boats I have...

    Trailering with canvas in place

I would think short trips across town or to the ramp would be fine but not at extended highway speeds. When I relocated my 282 from NC recently, the love bugs were thick coming through GA and that would not have been pretty on the canvas, they were plastered to the radar and top.

    Windlass wiring effecting electronics

Thanks for the advice. Speaking of battery chargers, should I be using mine? I will typically run the boat once or twice a month and I keep the battery switches off while on the lift.

    Windlass wiring effecting electronics

Boat is a 282 Sailfish and I believe the windlass was the factory option model(Sprint 600) of which has been discontinued. The electronics "blink" and I get a "pop up" that signal has been lost from the DSM(Raymarine). I am going to play it safe and run a homerun from the battery switch to the...

    Windlass wiring effecting electronics

My boat seems to be having a problem with what I think is a "momentary voltage drop" as I power up or down the existing windlass of which effects the sonar/GPS, etc. and I get re-set alarms. I know the factory prewires for the windlass but I am thinking I may need to run a dedicated "hot" back...

Fresh to salt water maintenance and precautions

I agree with the above. Fresh water rinse after every trip and T9 on all electrical, linkages, motor parts, nuts&bolts, etc. will go a long ways to help minimize corrosion. Keep your zincs in good shape and an aluminum trailer would be much preferred over a galvanized one if dunked on a routine...

New Sailfish owner with a handling question.

Thanks for the replies. The helm fluid was the first thing I checked on returning, it was fine and no apparent leaks. I am going to bleed the lines and go from there. Maybe this condition caused the rudder feedback arm to go out on the AP. Can't imagine the prior owner did not notice this...

New Sailfish owner with a handling question.

The 180 is when the boat is up on the lift and out of the water! From the 3:00 to 9:00 position their is no response at the steering arm, actually it is a tad over 1/2 revolution of the wheel.

New Sailfish owner with a handling question.

Thanks for the replies skippers. I am thinking I may need to back off the speed a bit as I was watching the fuel economy gauge(of which my prior boat doesn't have) and trying also to get the optimum economy. From here on comfort will be first. Another question: I really had to "work the...

    Anchor roller

I installed a Good freefall windlass and their pivoting roller boom on my old boat and it worked like a charm. It needs to extend about 6-8" out from the bow for the flukes or claw to clear and the pivot action does seem to help with the self deployment. That unit was built very well IMHO.

New Sailfish owner with a handling question.

Hi all, newby to this site and a proud owner of a(new to me) 05 Sailfish. Just fished her for the first time this past weekend. Decided to hit some bottom #'s about 45 miles out and with a 10-12 knt N-NE wind I came to the conclusion that this would be as a good of a "sea trial" as any. The...

New to forum- windlass question on 282 Sailfish

Just purchased a 2005 282 with the factory option Lawrence-Simpson 600 Sprint windlass. Questions's. Is the windlass capable of "freefall" and is the wrench supplied needed for this ? I assume it is a manual operation but when I try to back off the cap, the entire gypsy turns. Also, as I was...

Will be purchasing a 282 Sailfish-?'s for other 282 owners.

Looking for a 2004-2006 depending on the price. I need a trailer also as we will usually pull down to the Keys once a year. Nice looking rig there Capt. Bill, I would like to find one that hasn't been bottom painted yet as I will also keep it on a lift. Looking forward to becoming a GW owner as...

Will be purchasing a 282 Sailfish-?'s for other 282 owners.

I am currently in the market for a 282 and hope to pull the trigger within the next couple of weeks on a used low hour boat. A few questions for other owners. (1) What is the better power option, the Yammie 225's or the 250's ? I assume the 250 will get a little better performance in fuel...
