    Bottom Love...

he indicated he had water penetration, so he was likely carrying around a bunch of extra weight in the form of water in the hull. Also the "bad repairs" he found underneath - could have been creating drag. All just guesses. I also had some of those voids where the gelcoat chipped and...

    Bottom Love...

and without stripping down to gelcoat i might not have known about blisters until it was too late. I understand that performance-wise it probably doesn't make a difference, and aesthetically from more than 10' away it looks the same--and you really didn't say if your neighbor is just anal or he...

    Painting the deck ?

I painted mine w/ Interlux Interdeck, which is a non-skid paint. You can use any topside paint w/ added grit from the Behr paint aisle or I've even heard of people just throwing sand in. If you use Interdeck, make sure you get a drill mixer b/c the grit settles in the can and really needs...

    Bottom Love...

Each coat of paint probably represents a few pounds of weight. Each 'uneven' spot creates drag. 2 good reasons to strip old paint off. My 23 y.o. Grady had many layers of paint on it when I got it. Did sanding and repainted, but it wasn't for a few years when I decided to start fresh and...

Another Bildge Pump Stuck Help! Question

I personally have the internal mercury float Rule pumps. I bought one of the non-float switch pumps before, which uses sensing technology by turning on every 10 minutes to 'sense' if there's any water there, and then shuts off. I found it drained my battery after a few weeks. Threw that out...

    Bottom Paint Selection for Grady

Interlux Interprotect (barrier coat) does give good time between coats, however you have a VERY limited time betw the last coat of barrier coat and the first coat of paint.

    Bottom Paint Selection for Grady

are you on a lift or trailer? You need to look for "Max dry time before launch" if so. Some paints have a limited amount of time the paint can sit out of the water before it loses antifouling properties. I use Petit Ultima SR. About $200/gal, but well worht it. Ablative is the way to...

    '99 300 Marlin w/ Yamaha 250 FXRX 2 strokes

Those engines are 30% more efficient than old carb'd engines, and 4-strokes are about 30% more efficient than those engines. Consider this math when people tell you you should have 4-strokes: When I was pricing new engines 3 years ago, a 4-stroke Yamaha cost $6K more than the same HP...

    Scuppers below water line

One thing- have the scuppers and scupper lines been replaced on the boat? If its a 1990, then hopefully they have. 15-20 years is pretty much the lifespan of those things. I have an 88 and redid all my thru-hulls and hoses about 7 years ago. So, the fact that your scuppers are below the...

well considering I paid $10,500 for a new 2002 OX 66 SWS engine 3 years ago, I think you just got a free boat! Keep that in mind when something breaks! it'll help you to sleep..... Honestly with what you said about an unfortunate situation for the seller, they probably owned the boat...

    Pro Mariner vs Guest Chargers.

I've had a Guest portable charger for 7 years. I only charge my batts about 1x a month, so not daily/weekly use, but I haven't had any issues. Batts sat all winter in the boat, were dead as doornails a few weeks ago, put the Guest on overnight and good to go!

Do I need to Bottom Paint?

one thing is that only some ablative paints have an "unlimited dry time before launch" (something each paint label tells you). That means some paint can't sit out of the water for a long time. Some have really short windows like 12-24 hours, and some have a 30 day or 90 day max time. I use...

    2005 yamaha

that is a great deal assuming everything is working as you say. How many hours on the engine? Was it recently installed? (since its an 05 w/ 3 more years on the warranty). You should get 1-2 thousand hours out of it if used regularly and maintained well.

If its a 2-S then its likely the SWS OX66? If so, then its a great engine. I have an 02 on miine.

    Mixing Ringfree with Stabil

they're not redundant and I use both on every fill-up. They work together fine. Do you NEED to shock your engine w/ Ringfree? If you do, make sure you change out the spark plugs after the shock tank. They'll be all carb'd up.

Update on my F250... it is seized!!!

you say you filled up the gas and used Stabil and covered the boat for winter. Did you fog the engine? If you're in NC, thats some humid weather there and I wonder if un-oiled metal could have been more susceptable to rusting.
