    1988 Grady-White Repower question

I repowered my 88 Seafarer 3 years ago. I went w/ a new 2003 Yamaha OX66 SWS 200hp. It was $6K less than a Yam 4-S or HPDI. Considering I put about 100 hrs a year on the engine, pay approx $1000 a year in fuel, a savings of 33% in milage from the 4-S or HPDI options would take 20 years to...

True differnce between the seaV2 hull and pre 1992 hulls

I think they added a step in the bow to knock down spray and make it more steady at anchor. My 88 Grady is WET when you have a head or cross-wind. The waves run right up the bow and blow. A step will knock down that wave.

    This Ever Happen To You?

I haven't waxed my boat in 5 years. I haven't brightened my teak in just as long. I rarely scrub the waterline. I will scrub blood stains off the deck, but haven't "washed" her since prior to spring. Granted, my boat is now 22 years old, and I got her cheap, so I'm not concerned about...

About to buy a boat- should I be worried. PICS INCLUDED

the core is/was wet at some point. My 1988 Grady interior doesn't look anything like that. Was probably sunk and salvaged.

Kicker Motor--Peace of mind or a hassle?

I removed the kicker from my 228. It would only push the boat in a straight line in dead-calm, which isn't very common during trophy season on the Chesapeake. Any cross-wind or waves would push the boat off-course.

    Bottom Paint

Gelcoat is not an 'impermeable membrane'. It will eventually absorb water. No matter how shiny or waxy it is. To create an impermeable membrane, you need to apply a barrier coat. At least 4 coats of it.

    Trouble with Garmin Fishfinder 160C

i had an issue where the screen would go part blank. It was an electrical issue w/ my battery connections. Also if your battery is getting low you'll get that problem.

    Kicker motor 282 sailfish

I have a 228 and got rid of the kicker b/c it only worked in flat calm seas. Any wind or waves and you could barely steer.

    1997 seafarer repower

I got a new OX 66 SWS on my 88 228. The 4-stroke or HPDI were $6000 more than the new 2-stroke, and it would take me 20 years to recoup the difference in fuel savings. So it wasn't worth the extra $ to me. Plus I liked the lighter weight

    Battery Charger: Prosport 12....Installed

Does the aux charge lead deliver the same amperage as the standard charge? I have 2 batteries, one switch, everything is wired to a bus bar (-) and the switch (+). I "dedicate" my starting battery every day when I turn the switch to #1 and start my engine. Run for a while to recharge...

Battery - Deep Cycle or Starting?

The stereo won't drain a deep cycle battery unless you go months w/o using your boat. If you use it somewhat regularly, or put a charge on it once a month when not in use, the stereo and GPS won't drain your battery. If you use it less than once a month, then not hard wiring it is an...

need advice for potential kicker motor on Seafarer 228G

I ended up removing my kicker and selling it. This was about a year after I got the boat (used). First of all, the bracket backing bolts were pulled into the core of the transom by all the bouncing, letting water get in. And while it CAN push you slowly, it won't do so very well if there's...

Battery - Deep Cycle or Starting?

I have one of each, but only a single engine. Sounds like you need 3 batteries- 2 starting and 1 deep cycle. I had trouble cold starting my 200hp engine from the deep cycle, so I added a starting battery, generally use that to start the engine and the DC for most of the other times, esp while...

    Mystery pump ?

I have that faucet on the gunwale and I could swear the pump was down in the bilge w/ the water tank, buts its been 5 years since I removed all that. If you have the single 95 gal fuel tank, then the water tank for the faucet was in the aft centerline compartment behind the fuel tank. Don't...

    GPS Powering off

Mine did that a year ago and I just had to clean off the wire contacts and reconnect to the battery & bus bar. It was a voltage issue. Also happened when I switched to a battery that was almost dead.

    Mystery pump ?

I have an 88 Seafarer and if you're talking about the fish boxes that the seats are mounted to, its probably an added on live-well pump. Mine doesn't have any pumps in that compartment.

trickle down economics helps boat builders

this speaks volumes. 1) you don't care about your employees 2) rich people never get any poorer (and will fire as many employees as necessary to maintain their economic status) Thus we've exposed the 2 major issues with today's economy. I'm sure when you were making the motherload...
