    Grady 258 & 282 input

I have a 283 that is close to the weight of the 282 and I pull it with a 1/2 ton suburban. I pull it on 100 mile trips three or four times/year and once on a 550 mile trip. I pull it at 60 mph on the interstate and between 50 and 60 on smaller roads and have had no problem. We have a pretty...

    Another Positive Grady experience!

I'm confused (which is not an unusual state for melately), the hose connects to only one side of the fresh water flushing fitting on the motor? What do they do with the other side of the fitting?

I wish I could help in the posting of the pictures. I cannot even post a smilie without getting a lot of gibberish. Please post the pictures when you can. Someone a lot smarter than me will enlighten you as to how. Ed

Adding a live well and insulating the fish box

Regarding your insulation: Look in the Yellow Pages or google for insulation or roofing contractors that do spray polyurethane foam insulation. Bring the box to them and have them spray it with an inch or more of foam. You want the 2 lb. density (or greater), closed cell foam which is similar...

    Another Positive Grady experience!

Congratulations on your new boat, by the way, and I'm sure you are going to be hard to put up with while you wait for warm weather to splash it. Please send pictures when you have a chance. I keep my boat on a lift and it's darn near impossible to flush properly. The connection to the engine...

Sailfish in tight 3 to 5 foot seas

Like rcrudder, I pushed the snapper season a little last month and got caught in 3 to 5 ft seas about 60 miles offshore in the Gulf. My 283 got us back at about 20-22 mph and we never felt unsafe. I think the 283 and the 282 are the same hull and for my use, I wouldn't trade my 283 for...

Twin Engine Fuel Flow Monitoring Systems

Back around 1980, I installed a floscan system to a single engine 204 Grady and loved it. I had a 4-cyl in/out board that seemed to make gas because it only used around 7 gallons/hr at W.O.T. (around 25 mph). Although I loved it, it was of little use because I used somewhere between 5 and 7...

    Woody and Collinite

Last week I looked in my local West Marine and did not see either. I just called them and they do have both in stock. I must have been breathing gas fumes when I was in their store. Anyway, thanks for your help. Ed

    Woody and Collinite

I see numerous posts recommending Woody and Collinite wax but cannot find a local source for either. Woodys web site is in Australia and Collinite does not have Internet sales. Where are you guys buying yours?

Is a "cockpit flushing system" what I think it is? An attachment to the engine(s) that will allow you to flush them without hanging upside down in the well area to screw a hose to the engine? Anyone have any information on how to do this or maybe a picture? Thanks Ed

    Release 283 Electrical Problems

I cannot tell why it is locked in the on position until I squeeze my roofer into the hole and remove it. I doubt that it is a piece of trash because the float is encased in a blue plastic box that screens the trash from the float. This switch is called a "Sure Bail" and there is a lot of...

    Release 283 Electrical Problems

I found out that the pump is working fine, even after running dry for a couple of days. Next week I will tackle the float switch. I had thought that I would leave the old one where it is but I am determined to get it out to see what went wrong with it. Maybe I can prevent it from happening...

    Release 283 Electrical Problems

John: I finally got some old clothes on and crawled around in the bottom of the boat to assess the best way to eliminate my problems. The first thing I am going to do is run water into the bilge to see if the pump still works. I am sure it ran dry for a couple of days until the batteries ran...

    Release 283 Electrical Problems

BayRat: I was wondering what might have caused the float switch to lock up and couldn't figure it out. The day that I first noticed the problem we had spent at the oil rigs about 40 miles south of the coast. Mr. Weather Man predicted 5 to 10 mph winds and 2-3ft seas and once out there, the...

    Release 283 Electrical Problems

Bobp: No, didn't have to use the fire extinguisher or sledge hammer this time. The problem was with the float switch. When I got to the boat the #1 battery bank was dead so I hooked up the on board charger. Within a few minutes, the aft bilge started to run so I knew what the problem was. I...

Yes, there was a major current draw on the batteries, the bilge pump ran continuously and ran down the #1 bank of two batteries. When I got back to the boat Saturday, the batteries were dead so I hooked up my on board charger and within a few seconds the pump started working again. Because...

    Receptacles under gunwale

It would take a large trolling motor to move a 282. I vote for the electric reel outlet, I think if it was a DC to AC converter it would only need two prongs on the DC side.

    Receptacles under gunwale

I would turn on all perko switches and plug into shore power. Test the receptacle to see how much voltage is in it and then you will know what it use it was put to. It doesn't look like a marine receptacle so I would get rid of it or replace it.

Some of you might have read about the problems I have been having with the electrical system on my 283 Release that is posted on the "Tips, Modifications and Electronics" forum. It seems that I am getting a back-feed of electricity into my switch panel through the aft bilge pump. Yesterday...

    Release 283 Electrical Problems

BobP: You seem to have more confidence in me than I do. I am bringing my digital multimeter, heat shrink tubing, spare fuses and fire extinguisher to the boat. Something is gonna happen, for good or worst.
