Fuel/Water Filters ~ When is it time...

yeah, it's running really low. No gauges or anything to tell rpms etc. Will check everything out and look at getting new sparks. I also have a manual, so may look at that . So is the filter bowl supposed to run dry or is there supposed to be liquid running thru?

Fuel/Water Filters ~ When is it time...

it's a 1984 150hp johnson o/b. was told the upper unit was rebuilt in '06. It's coughing, running a little rough then shuts off after a time. I have to throttle it to keep it alive, the choke helps some too. The spark plugs on one side look like they could be replaced. The guy who...

Fuel/Water Filters ~ When is it time...

It a Mallory 10 Micron filter. I was getting some water, but the last bit was just fuel. So.. Is it normal to have liquid (fuel) running thru the bowl at all times while motor is primed and running? Or should it be dry during this time? If so then I'm having more than filter issues...

Fuel/Water Filters ~ When is it time...

.. to replace them. The first time I took the boat out after changing the tank and all the hoses. My motor was having issues, and got a tow back. Upon returning I was able to empty water out of the bowl, I neglected the filter I suppose. That evening, I was able to empty it again. Two days...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

Cool I'll probably get the whole unit. What's 'OMC' stand for? Also, I need reassurance that water in separator (not emptying it) could cause the engine to shut off. Was wondering if this happened to anyone or expected? thanks

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

The small bowl is amber in color and it's difficult to see what's going on. I emptied it last night and apparently it was full and now it definitely looks empty. The liquid that came out looked like fermenting beer. I def. will replace the filter now, assuming it hasn't been done in a long...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

I took my boat out for the first time yesterday after installing the new gas tank. The engine kept conking out when trying to accelerate and wouldn't stay idle when taking out of neutral. Unfortunately I had already gotten out to the bay, and I required an expensive tow. The captain...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

Update.. I hope to be done installing my new tank this week and in the water again this weekend. I unwrapped the tank and it looked pretty good with a couple exceptions. 1. There was no ground at the end where the sender goes, (it was in my drawings and the old tank had one at both...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

Okay, so I'm returning the epoxy and will pick up some resin. I have too much anyway I only need it for the holes that I put in for drainage. Question about the support braces.. they just lie across the tank and wedged in right. Is there consideration for the contact that will be on the tank...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here, since I haven't received the tank and materials. I asked the fabricator rep. and he said he'd provide the neoprene strips and instructed me how to adhere them etc. It sounded like the strips were not even an inch thick. That was before I saw that...

Whaler: I think you're talking about on the azak you adhered to the bottom of the tank, did you use anything between the side wedges and the tank, and under the cross braces (between the braces and the tank)? BobP: I understand azak to be be a brand of synthetic (pvc) deckboard. It's hard...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

My new gas tank is enroute and I had some questions... bobP you said. For the cross braces, I'm getting some azak type material for the cross braces along the top. Per your comment above, you said to not use anything against the tank unless it is lifesealed, even if the cross braces lay...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

Jim, I'm pretty new to this whole boat thing, and am not familiar with all the terms, I first had to look up the term 'leg'- on a motor no less. I won't be home til after 5pm EST, but can measure it then. I have a 1984 Johnson 150 HP on mine currently. BTW, what would the...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

I like the idea of a plug for draining, I have OB. I have to digest these options for under tank attaching of cushion etc. The fabricator is providing strips of some kind for me to use under the tank, and their website has a link to this surveyor site for installation instructions...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

So basically I'll want to drill a hole, coat it and put one of those copper tubes in there with adhesive and plug it from the outside. Then if/when water gets in I can release it?

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

my tank is a belly type.. \__/ Here's what I"m working with, still have some cleaning to do, give it plenty of time to dry and epoxy coat the whole inside. Question is though if I should add a drain hole from that compartment should water gets in there.

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

The tank was in real tight with foam all around. The tube (approx. 1/4") was placed at the top in the very back, and went from the tank area to the bilge area. Seemed to be good only for the case if water got through the large panel or access hatch (which was loose) whatever. Probably...

    Fuel Tank Discovery (20' Dolphin'77)

The only holes in it are for fill, vent, the feed tube and a metal tube (aft) that drains from the top just for drainage. The way the new tank will go in, the area will have space all around the tank. There's a pipe along the bottom of the 'V' from the front bilge area of the boat to...
