I do not have a trailer for my Marlin but I think you may want to consider something that handles more like 14,000 or 15,000 lbs. I estimate my boat weights at least 12,000 with a load, maybe as much as 14,000 loaded to the gills.
Holeshot with the three blades was pretty good, now it is better.
I have only been in 0-3' seas with the new four blade props, so far so good. I have been told a lot of people switch to four blade props becuase their three blades blow out easily. I can honestly say mine did not blow out...
I was going to respond and share my experiance, but I realize you are in a very different situation with all that debris in the water. I much prefer stainless to aluminum ninety-nine percent of the time (better acceleration, cruise faster when conditions warrant, use less fuel (sometimes), less...
I asked on this board and a few others what the performance differences woudld be with the two different props. Others have chimed in and gave some guidance. Without boring you with all the details I will post the basics below. Yes, I am well aware we are supposed to use knots intead of mph...
Alan,
Love to read your fishing reports (and of course your in depth how-to-do reel repairs). Your photojournalist skills are pretty darn good as well. I love the comments and the sarcasm. I especially liked "This is the last time he smiled on this trip," and "Note to self, it's better to...
Had a similar problem a few years ago. After a few trips to the local Yamaha dealer the problem was finally solved by the eastern Yamaha rep that was called in. Never determined the exact cause, but they did replace the harness, gauge, and ECM before making the final fix. Been fine since...
Call or email Andy at SIM (Ship Island Marina). He knows Yamaha products better than most. He also know his way around Mercury if I remember correctly. He has never disappointed me, one of the few straight shooters in the marine business.

Guys,
I am on the fence at this point. I have missed the BFT bite, and am strongly considering hitting them on Sunday and or Monday. Still waiting for the Admiral and Earl to let me know their plans... I will post here and/or call you guys once I decide.

If I was buying a used Marlin, my first choice would be F250 motors. If I were buying a brand new Marlin my first choice would be the new "lightweight" 300hp Yamahas. I agree with what was posted above, the F350 engines are overkill and being able to cruise at 40 knots is rare here off NJ...
Re: Marine Air Problem
GMan,
Any chance your air filter is clogged? Or is it possible that your inlet strainer is clogged back near the 120 volt pump next to the intake? One more idea is to pull the cover (return) and put a cold rag or a piece of ice on the copper sensor and see if this makes...
Sounds like it may be a fuel problem to me. Perhaps the jets in the carbs are partially clogged and not alowing enough fuel to each cylinder? Have you cleaned the carbs recently? I doubt there is enough carbon in the cylinders to cause these symptoms but I guess you could check that by...
