    2001 300 Marlin - any info appreciated

Great boat and HP setup. The 66's are supposed to be one of the most reliable 2 stroke Yamaha ever produced. Only my opinion: On the resale side......2 strokes will be (much) more difficult for you to sell this boat in let's say 5 years.

    300 Marlin - Hardtop issues

Have not seen cracking but my surveyor found wet core traces around hardware installation areas on mine. I'd suggest a surveyor take a look. If the top separates into 2.....that is one heck of a fiberglass repair or replacement. I'm guessing it originated from moisture and an installer...

    Considering a 232 gulfstream or a 282 sailfish

Owned the 232 and considered the 282. Quartering seas on the 232 will give you a pounding. The extra length on the 282 helps dramatically. Try to sea trial them on days that have 2' to 3' seas. All boats perform well on calm days. The 232 does just fine with a single as small as 250HP but...

    Hi, new Marlin owner here.

Buzzers should go on.....probably an easy fix. 8 turns sounds excessive. I'm guessing low fluid. Good luck....Nice Ride!

    Flushing Engine w/ Fresh Water

Not to complicate things......nontheless, I'm guessing your freshwater pump will not generate enough PSI to flush the engine. The Y fitting will even degrade the PSI even lower. If it doesn't work.....no worries, just upgrade the pump. I'm just sayin'.

    NBOA Insurance

I switched to NBOA recently and have not heard of anyone having reimbursement issues. Read the fine print and glad I switched.....just wish I knew about them earlier. They own the Sea Ray market from word of mouth.....word on the street as they say.

    Marlin motor spacing

whew....what a relief. I was thinking you had a Marlin and were going to spread the engines. Yes, the Marlin will spin in calm winds and current.

Help me decide gulfstream or islander

I had the Gulfstream and seriously considered the Islander. GS will go 42 top end with the 250 maybe a little more. No worries about trailering...the transom is only 4" over legal and I was never stopped in 4 years and 8000 miles of travelling. Biggest issue in my opinion is resale value of 2...

    Sealent

Almond is a better choice but clear works fine for me. Is GE silicone different than standard outdoor silicone....?

    Battery Charger 2000 Marlin

GW gave good advice. It's the reserve minutes that are key. 180 minutes X 4 fully charged batteries........plenty of power for your/our setup. At some point, GW used thumb screw type terminal hardware on a couple Marlins that I know of (older ones I looked at before buying mine). I...

    My son...not really Grady related

Will continue to send up prayers. Glad to hear everything went well!

    Sealent

clear outdoor silicone will be fine.

    Battery Charger 2000 Marlin

The charger will recognize the difference. The starting batteries are isolateed from the accessory batteries. Unless you are running your refrigerator and radar.....it's doubtful you are running down your accessory batteries and definitely not your starting batteries. Are you taking battery...

    Basic Wax Question

Wax everything. The non skid is easily polished with a machine or by hand. The diamond cut non skid usually found on a bow pulpit cannot be polished. A boat that only receives attention to the smooth surfaces will have a checkered appearance if exposed to direct sunlight over a couple years.

NEED A BUFFER AND WHAT BRAND IS SUGGESTED

Autogeek.Net sells everything you'll need for buffing equipment.

    Buffing Question

2 types of buffers. 1. Orbital/ car type buffer and 2. Rotary / makita industrial type. Orbital will never burn gelcoat....you'll burn the motor first. You would actually have to try to burn gelcoat with a Rotary at 1,500 rpm's. The 'new' owner of my 2003 Gulfstream said it was comparable...

    Insurance Question

NBOA was 50% less than State Farm and Boat US for myself. I have yet to hear of someone having issues with reimbursement or reputation.

Seeking Advise on Grady White Boat

Seadrifter, All great posts above. For myself, I purchased the Marlin for it's cabin size. Crazy reason but I overnight 30 nights a year and found it large enough for a family of 3. 30 nights X hotel rate = maybe not so crazy. Good luck on your decision!

    Removing bad fuel from Marlin

For a service center......this is not costly at all as the drain plug on the aft tank is very easy to reach. Not sure about the forward tank. It's the disposal that is the problem for doing it yourself. My dealer drained 30 gallons for $75. Dealing with that much fuel in an enclosed space...

Best Marine Insurance rates (I could find)....NBOA

Re: NBOA vs BOAT US - MEMBER REQUIREMENTS?? They build the member fee into the quote. When you get the invoice...it will be broken out.
