    Replacing gas shocks. Help requested...

Chris, Here is a link to the products of Ameritool. Grady White has Ameritool put a different number on the body of the gas shocks to try and trap their customers into buying through them. The cylinders are standard Ameritool parts, you just have to figure out the compressed length, extended...

    2006 seafarer 228

Hey fellas, wavetamer asked if anyone has put a 300hp 4stroke on a 226/228 and if there is any advice as to strengthening the transom on the inside. He didn't ask you to talk him out of the project or what his fuel mileage may look like. Additionally he sure didn't want to entertain a pissing...

I think you need to re-think your plans.

Thinking about air ride seats for my 228

Bostrum is a well-established brand. More costly than some but they are built well. The challenge will be finding a seat with good performance that is thin enough sitting on the storage box of the 228 to not make your seat too high.

Rear back rests on 226 Seafarer

Yes, when I bought my 228, one of those backs had jumped off as the previous owner was headed for Key West. He didn't miss it till he got down there. They spent a week there and, on the way back home they stopped in Largo for some lunch. A guy walked in the restaurant carrying the seat back and...

Rear back rests on 226 Seafarer

Mine were the same. There was 2 snaps on tabs at the bottom of each back and then just slide up off the brackets. It may be Velcro on the bottom now.

    New member seeking Gulfstream knowledge/advice

I think that is a smart way to look at it. You don't want to ruin a deal on a good boat over a few small items, especially if you are a do-it-yourselfer. When going over the boat checking things, just make notes of the things that don't work and use those facts to help with making your offer...

Were I you, I would remove those lag bolts holding the swim platform braces to the transom and push a long thin screwdriver or icepick into the hole at a big angle, feeling for rotten wood out to the side of the holes. I no longer own a nice Grady due to that exact issue. If the owner doesn't...

New motor Arriving: Is my Engine Mount Good?

Just tell the shop to get one. I did have a guy that owns a grady with a bracket tell me that his didn't have a groove. It a may have been one that had been replaced or maybe some years didn't have the groove. I can't say. I know mine was a 2004 and it had the groove. If I remember correctly the...

New motor Arriving: Is my Engine Mount Good?

I owned a 2004 of the same model until recently that was a 2004. It had the same engine bracket. The underside of that inspection cover on top that seasick mentioned has a groove in it with an O-ring so there is no need for caulk of any kind there. Additionally, the screws don't need to be...

Feels like spun hub but isn't

The next time it starts over revving, resist the urge to back down the throttle, the engine has a rev limiter and won't hurt itself, and trim the motor down instead and see if the prop hooks up again. The trim gauge may be showing you bad info as far as where you are trimmed. The rheostat that...

    Mounting Batteries in Bow

If you want more weight forward, I recommend you put sandbags up forward somewhere. Don't subject flooded cell batteries to the pounding they would incur up forward. If you do move batteries to the front at least change to absorbed glass mat batteries like Fixit said and check with the...

Swim platform on a 228 seafarer

I used 1/2 inch wood blocks, 3 in x 3 in. I bought the wood from Lowes in their special cut section. I used polyester resin from Lowes hardware and cloth from there also.

Swim platform on a 228 seafarer

My 228 had the full width swim deck and it had the same problem. I discovered it the same way you did, looking to see why my ladder bolts were loose. I removed it, turned it over and started drilling 1/4 inch exploratory holes in the core. I wound up replacing the entire core.

    Sea star hydraulic hose replacement

They usually run through the factory installed rigging tubes, but depending on the age of your boat, a previous owner could have replaced the hoses before and could possibly have rerouted them. Check the hull layout diagram for your boat provided by Grady and it will show the location of the...

    Debby

Debby is a nasty little bitch. The south jetty here on the Venice inlet was damaged a year or more ago by hurricane Idalia. The jetty rock was finally replaced awhile back and just last week they finally got around to putting asphalt paving on it. It's a real popular fishing spot and tourist...
