trouble getting 1980 overnighter on plane

I would be check that new prop for sure. It could be the wrong pitch, diameter or both. If you're really getting 6k rpm I would think you need more pitch. The size should be stamped on the hub. good luck

    Hand Held GPS

my handheld makes a great backup. For me the small screen is useless when the boat is moving even a little bit. If you think you are going to use it, a larger boat mounted unit is safer in the long run. I saved a buck on a navman unit for my 17 ft runabout and I hate it. it is hardly readable in...

    Carb Cleaning

my only suggestion is to describe the symptoms and say "fix it please" I wouldn't ask for a specific repair to be done as that may not be the exact problem. it does sound like a carb service is in order. make sure you have a good fuel filter and separator to protect those freshly serviced carbs...

    Anchor line chafing

Mine shows some wear in the same area. Every so often I think you are supposed to resplice the line to the chain. When the splice comes up I close one eye and it only looks half as bad :D one day I may try to resplice mine myself. http://www.animatedknots.com/chainsplic ... dknots.com

    Yamaha engine alarms went off.

I had 93's and the alarm goes off when you turn the ignition on to verify it's operational. I was also going to guess the float in the oil tank signaled low oil when the boat launched. I don't know of an over-rev alarm. If it turned off and continued normally I wouldn't worry about it. :D

    new to forum, a question

I think you can never have too much trailer. I also think a model with torsion axles would better in the long run if it's not going to be used much. Good luck!

    Uh--Oh ?

Any water is not good for sure. There's likely water between the hole you drilled and the bottom of the transom. After you follow the previous responses I would also find the point where water gained access and seal it up properly. Try a search of this forum there's lots of information regarding...

    Help! Choosing Between Boats

My boat came from Florida. You can compound and polish bad gelcoat to look pretty good but it will not stay that way as long. If it has canvas, install all of it to check it's condition. all the clear eisenglass (or whatever product was used) that came with mine was ruined from UV exposure. Now...

    terrible time installing fuel sender

My tank had a broken screw that was crooked and stopped the old sender from sealing and an assortment of odd wood screws barely holding the old sender in. I used the wema adapter and screws but had to airdrill out the aluminum tank holes one size larger to accomidate the larger wema screws. Then...

Congratulations! I was thinking about airbags for my duramax. Just for when the road has dips that get the rear of the truck bouncing a little.

    Garboard Drain Plug Sealing

I love 5200 but if you ever want to remove that drain again be ready to remove at least the gelcoat under it and maybe some fiberglass. Don't ask me how I know this. Since screws provide the mechanical fastening I would use 4200 or some other semi permanent sealant, not necessarily a...

New to Grady Family - Need Advice

You are in for a ride for sure! I watched that auction and you got an amazing deal if you can pull off the repair. The trailer is worth at least 2k. Yes definitely a big project, but when you are done you will know everything about your boat. Before the auction that boat was for sale for much...

New guy with questions about differences in 282s

The only way to be sure an f225 doesn't have the corrosion issue is each lower unit has to be removed and a scope needs to be inserted into exhaust housing. I would think a certified Yamaha repair facility that's already doing this test only for this one. There are a very few of these are...
