Crappy situation part 2. You won't believe this!

So you're only option to empty the holding tank is to pump it overboard? When they redesign the islander, the access to the holding tank system is much easier through the hatch at the helm.

Crappy situation part 2. You won't believe this!

Now that I am familiar with the plumbing, I understand what others have rigged up. I need to make some decisions on what to do with the old Groco and plumbing. If I try to add a Y valve to mine as configured, I'd have a long reach to that valve. I might consider placing the suction tube on the...

Crappy situation part 2. You won't believe this!

Success! Pump out and complete evacuation of the system. I actually get clear water out of the holding tank now. Plus, flushing actually results in clean water in the bowl. I never thought a marine toilet could bring so much joy! :) Now that I can actually have clean water in the bottom of the...

Crappy situation part 2. You won't believe this!

If anyone can provide the link, please do. There are several out there. I might make this a winter project including replacing the tank sensor with an external. While I'm at it I can add a freshwater tank sensor too.

Crappy situation part 2. You won't believe this!

The pump out hose was connected to the inlet and the head hose was connected to the discharge. The tank never emptied because I could only draw water off the top of the tank instead of from the bottom. Also explains why the head would back up.

Crappy situation part 2. You won't believe this!

The blaster pump is for fresh water. It has nothing to do with the waste system. Once I get this pumped out, I might try to resurrect the groco pump, but odds are it is trashed. It has been marinating in yuk for almost 20 years. If it is indeed not salvageable, I'll consider the options others...

Crappy situation part 2. You won't believe this!

You all might have seen my 2 other posts about my holding tank and head. Every time I think I have it fixed, I find out I don't. I finally pulled the floor up. I pulled the tank sensor out and the tank was 100% full despite pumping it out a week ago! Yamaha's make oil, my holding tank makes...

    Minimum Planing Speed & tabs

I have one hole left to go down with my engines, but I'm not sure if I can use it. It appears the transom might interfere with the engine bracket. I know there are 2 other islander owners on the forum with DF200s. I need to see what hole theirs are mounted on.

    Minimum Planing Speed & tabs

Good to know. I'll take that up with the prop tuner. I'd love to talk to someone who engineers props to better understand my experience. The inconsistency in performance depending on conditions and load is a head scratcher for me. Last weekend I ran 9 miles in a confused chop. I would have bet...

    Minimum Planing Speed & tabs

Trimming the engines up/out - I can't go more than a ¼ up the scale without an issue. As far as what the prop is specifically doing, I don't know exactly other than I lose "traction." I don't know how to determine the difference between blow out and ventilation. Df200 4 cylinders.

    Minimum Planing Speed & tabs

I'm open to feedback. Coming out of the hole I can't trim up more than a ¼ without slip. I can't raise the bow much either. As stated before, certain chop conditions causes loss of traction up to about 30 mph. The prop gurus have advised to try cup and have been successful with other Zukes with...

    What engines and what props?

    Minimum Planing Speed & tabs

With the old f150s and SWS props, my minimum planing speed was similar to what you all are posting. The port I frequent has an outer break wall speed limit of 10 mph. With the factory set up, I'd need to come off plane in the harbor, otherwise I was kicking up a huge wake and sucking gas. Now I...

Trailering a 1992 Grady White Sailfish

I've often wondered why all the hate for surge brakes. I've had both. Both worked well. Yes EOH has advantages, but not enough for me to consider a change. If I lived in and had to tow in the hills or twisty roads, I might think otherwise.

    Minimum Planing Speed & tabs

Speed is coming from the GPS. To support seasick's point, the Eco Enertia prop lifts the entire hull reducing drag. That and the 2005 270 only has an 18⁰ dead rise. The combination makes it easy to plane and gives really good economy. My only struggle is to get the props to hook up consistently...

    Minimum Planing Speed & tabs

With a light load and no tabs 8-9 mph. Never tried with full tabs. Naturally I would expect anyone to call BS, so here is the photo: Edit: Looks like I didn't have the engines tucked all the way in. I'll try to grab another photo next time out with engines all the way down.

    330 Express RePower

    What's the max HP rating for your hull? If 700, I'd be looking at the Honda V8 350s or Merc v10 350s. If I were spending your money, here is what I'd consider in this order: 1) Merc v10 350 2) Honda V8 350 3) Suzuki duo prop 300 or 350 4) Yamaha V6 350 5) Suzuki V6 300 6) Yamaha 300 That...

    330 Express RePower

Are you wanting to keep controls due to budget? If not, do yourself a favor and go to digital/electronic controls. For twins, it's the only way to go IMO. If budget isn't an issue, you have a lot of options, as long as you aren't limited by max HP rating. If you search, a number of forum members...

Trailering a 1992 Grady White Sailfish

A 92 Sailfish and a 282 are horses of a different color - and size. I would not tow a 282 with a half ton very far. A 25' regardless of beam shouldn't be an issue.

Part of what determines your capacity is what tow package your truck has - gearing, springs, cooling. If the truck was optioned without a tow package, you will be nearly maxed out. Despite that if the truck is 4x4, you can pull just about anything up a ramp in 4 low if needed. If you have the...
