    Motor selection for Seafarer 22

I owned one for 10 years, and had a 200 on it first and a 225 later. I loved it with the 225, and certainly wouldn't go below 200. The hull calls for a 25" shaft. You can't go shorter, but a 30" might work if you mount it on the highest mounts. Though I'm not a marine mechanic, I would think...

    Towing a 228G

I just can't agree here. I believe the 1/2 tons are much stronger than they used to be (not jus the Toyotas like use, but nearly all of them). Assuming your Super Duty is a F250 with the 5.4L (you might have the V10, but didn't say), even my lowly SUV has a few specs (not all, of course)...

    Towing a 228G

Towed mine with with a 2001 Sequoia for 10 years, and it did great. Never an issue on the road or at any ramp (2wd).

    "new" grady- 2003 257 advance-48 hours

Looks like a nice boat. I almost bought the same model myself.

    Tow Vehicle for Grady 258

The Toyota 5.7 is a beast. I tow my 27' Chase with a Sequoia and it does great. I have towed the same boat with a friend's F350 diesel dually; it was great, but not enough to make me want to live with that thing every day (noisy, smelly, expensive). I've also never had a need for 4wd; not...

228g hard top ,top end speed

Sounds slow to me, too. My 228 w/hardtop used to easily hit 40 mph in calm water (and honestly, the fuel level and people on board didn't change the top-end very much). That was at 5500+ rpm though, with a 225 OX66.

Help settle a Ring Free debate.

I haven't used any additives in any of my boats, and never had any problems. I sold one engine with over 3,000 hours on it! I even run cheap 2-stroke oil. Of course, that doesn't prove anything at all. One thing I know is that my boats run almost every week, and rarely sit for more than two...

    SPOT Connect (offshore satellite communication)

I just did a trip to the Bahamas and borrowed a friend's Spot Connect. On the website, you set up the email addresses and/or cell phone number for those you want to get updates. Then you pair your smartphone via Bluetooth and open the Spot App. You can type out the email and will (slowly)...

    Grand Cay, Abaco, Bahamas

We've flown ourselves to Abaco numerous times, but this month we're making the first crossing in our own boat. Thanks for the great pix and write up; I hope to add ours, too!

BOAT LIFT FOR A 22-8 will 4000lbs work

I installed a 10K lift as well, and the 228 was on it for years. Now it holds my 27' Chase, and I'm glad I spent slightly more for the heavier lift.

    Flush mounting electronics

I believe the panel is 3/8", though I can't remember for sure. There's already a "lip" around the outer edge of the compartment since the original doors are recessed in there, so the new panel fits into that and is about the same thickness. However, he did trim out most of the tapered walls...

    Flush mounting electronics

I have the same boat, and looked at the same options. I didn't like how tough it was to fit larger plotters inside the box, so I had my guy eliminate the doors altogether and make a new flush-mount panel. I could have chosen Seafoam color Starboard to match the gelcoat, but decided on the...

    Garmin 4212 on '01 263 Chase

Some said it would never fit, but I had a flush-mount panel made for my '01 263 Chase and mounted a Garmin 4212. I kept the original Furuno 1650DF on the panel as a backup chartplotter/sonar as well. I'm thrilled with the result, and feel that it real modernized our boat!

Looking to move my Grady to Flordia ?

I live just up the road from Apollo Beach in Tampa, and would be happy to answer any questions about the area. Personally, we keep out boat on lift up in New Port Richey. Apollo Beach is VERY convenient to Tampa Bay, but it's a long way to get out into the Gulf, which is where we fish. Once...

Sailfish in tight 3 to 5 foot seas

I've spent time in both the Gulf and the Atlantic, and have found there is a HUGE difference between the same reported seas on the two coasts, and also a difference in what people perceive as certain-sized seas. Even NOAA doesn't distinguish between 3-5 chop in the Gulf and 3-5 seas in the...

    seaboard vs starboard

I did all my trim 10 years ago with StarBoard seafoam, and it's been great. Last winter I did the bulkhead replacement with 3/4" of the same stuff, and it's been terrific so far. Easy to work with and looks great.

Through Hull Transducer location on Freedom 275

I think mine was just too far outboard from the keel, and was picking up some bubbles from the strake up near the bow. None of us wanted to believe they would hold the hull so far back, but there was nothing else in the way. You MIGHT get some interference from the livewell pickup since it...

    226 Seafarer Questions

My 228G has both. The previous owner of my boat had a stainless rod with an american flag mounted to it that went in the bow rail hole; I have no idea if that's what came there, but it worked nicely. The plexiglass piece is supposed to deflect some spray in very windy/choppy conditions I...

Through Hull Transducer location on Freedom 275

Just had one put in my 263 Chase, which is the same hull as a 273 Chase and maybe the same as yours? I already had a transducer (that I wanted to keep) and a livewell pickup on each side of the keel (about 1 to 1.5 feet off the keel), so they mounted the new one further out on the port side...

    1998 200 HP OX66

I went from a 200 carb to a 225 OX-66. I feel the newer motor starts easier, idles smoother, makes more power (it's a 225, of course), and is more fuel efficient to boot. Pretty good upgrade for me.
