Big heavy motors on a 94 228 G Tourney and max hp ??

My older ('88) Seafarer 228G is rated for 285hp according to the factory placard. I assume that was for the stern-drive models since there were no outboards in that range. Those V8 stern-drive motors seem to be WAY heavier than outboards, so it wouldn't seem to me that the hp or weight would...

    Speed on a 226 Seafarer

I can reach 46mph with my 228G and Yamaha 225 OX66. It hit's 5700 rpm up there though, so I don't do it. It could be your prop (it would have to be a "rocket" coming out of the hole!), or certainly could be losing some power from the engine.

Seafarer 228g sitting low in water

I've owned my '89 for 10 years and two different engines (carbed 200 and EFI 225), and it's always been the same as what you describe. Even with the scupper outlets underwater, the deck drains are still several inches above the waterline and will still drain any water from the deck.

How much for an 89 228 seafarer?

The performance numbers for that one with the Suzuki surprise me. I get 45 mph with my 2-stroke OX66 225, and still see a tad over 2nmpg. Mine might be for sale later this year; I'm shopping for a 257 Advance. Of course the top-end speed and 2nmpg don't come at the same time!

Is Grady White ever going to address the scupper issue?

Also, at least on mine, the scupper exits at the transom are WELL below the deck. So the deck is in no danger of taking on water (just the outlet of the scuppers and part of the hoses).

New Boat - what will it take for you to buy one?

I'll be changing "up" this year and see no reason not to do so. However, I never buy new and never finance, so I guess I don't really count for the original question. Of course not buying new and not financing is probably what protects me from the current economics in the first place, and has...

    Anyone relocate washdown pump?????

The washdown pump on my 228G is mounted to the transom underneath the port seat. I had to replace it last year, and it was pretty easy to access there.

    upgrade the cabin seperation wall

Nice job. I've been doing the same thing with StarBoard the last couple of weekends, and am almost done.

    Polarize lens question for sunglasses

I have the half jackets too, and I'm on my third set of Black Iridium Polarized lenses. I love them on the water, but the iridiums DO scratch.

    Keep the Aux fuel tank????

I don't believe my boat came with the aux tank, but the previous owner did move the 92-gal. tank forward and added a 25-gallon fw tank at the stern end. Like most Grady owners, we use our boat for several purposes; there's plenty of fuel for long offshore runs and plenty of water for hosing...

    Seafarer 228 Weight

I agree with the others. My 228 has two, 3500-lb torsion axles under it.

    2 stroke oil

I guess I'm in the minority here. I run the cheap (though TC3W certified) oil from Wally World. I've been running two-strokes for twenty years and never had an issue related to lubrication (plus Dad before that). It's still under $10/gallon and I put a lot of hours on my motor, so the savings...

Oil in water around motor after running?

Do you have a long idle period before shutting down (long no-wake zone or something)? If so, I've been told there is plenty of unburned fuel/oil that will come out. Mine creates that small slick sometimes and I'm not losing lower unit oil.

    Ocean Running Question

Your hull can take it just fine. The only issue I've had from all the pounding is the cabin structure. Mine has a good-sized crack on the side of the cabin opening, though it was complicated by the "rot-out" of the bottom of the cabin bulkhead (very common). Having no support from the...

226 Seafarer Trailer - What type do I need?

I calculate my rig's weight to be about the same as G8orDave's, and it's on a 7000-lb. trailer as well.

Truck for pulling a 228 Seafarrer

Check my signature, and you'll see I have the exact same boat/setup as you. I've been towing it with my '01 Sequoia for eight years. The truck came stock with 4.10 gears and a tranny cooler, and I switched all of the fluids to synthetic right after break-in. I've replaced a hatch door...

Moving fuel tank forward on 226

The previous owner of my 228 moved the tank all the way forward to make room for a larger water tank aft. I think it works out great that way. However, if weight is your only issue, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I tested my boat when looking at changing to a (HEAVY) F250 last year...

    Grady v. Scout

I agree with Tuna Man about the beam vs. ride. All other things equal, longer length and narrower beam wins the ride in chop category. Ask anyone at offshore fishing tournaments which boats ride best, and Contender is usually at the top (along with a host of others that are all similar in...
