Newbie Purchasing a new Gulfstream 232

The first question is have you had boats before, because the idea of owning a boat and the reality can quite different. They are quite expensive to run and maintain. Usage is weather dependent and always seems to be, that when you have the time to use it the weather is crap and when the weather...

Anyone Offshore in an Adventure 208?

It's really more about the experience of the skipper than the boat. The 208 is a very capable . Much more capable than the boats I used to 20-30miles offshore in my younger years. Start with trips close to shore. Get to know the boat and do what you feel comfortable with. You need to go out...

    Trailering with Eisenglass

I find it ok to tow with it up on multi lane highways at 60mph. On 2 lane highways meeting large trucks coming the other way, the clips become unattached letting the enclosure flap around causing rub marks on the eisenglass.

Things I’ve Done To My 228

Mounted 2 Maxel MTR08 teaser reels under the hardtop using round HDPE blocks with a hole that accepts the rear rocket launcher bolt allowing the reels to be mounted through the rocket launcher mounting plates. Waiting on an SCX20 satellite compass so I can install a Furuno NavPilot 300...

Things I’ve Done To My 228

Rigging station sourced through the local Grady dealer. The drain tubes were meant to hang over the transom which looked messy so I plumbed them the the gunwale and out via thru-hull fitting in the centre of the transom. 228 bow pulpit modified to take 323 through pulpit roller. Needed the...

Things I’ve Done To My 228

Started by compounding, new decals and ceramic coat. Replaced the plastic transom shower cap and cup holders with stainless steel ones. Picked up a new marine battery at half price and found it would fit under the starboard transom seat as a backup. One size smaller than my starting...

    Hydro shield prop saver/ hydrofoil

I wouldn’t be to keen to drill 3 holes in the skeg and use stainless bolts to bolt on more stainless to the aluminium. Especially if it is a saltwater boat. The wings look likely to grab an obstruction and twist the motor while the skeg alone would bounce over it. It may stop damage from direct...

    Vantage Ceramic Coating

Same product but different formulations. Usually one for paint and gel coat, one for glass, one for vinyl and one for fabric, The misconception many people have is that Is maintenance free. I ceramic coated my boat but am just a diligent with cleaning after use as when I was waxing it. If you...

    trim tabs

Coming from owning boats without trim tabs. I use the motor most of the time for bow up down. I Use trim tabs mainly to correct lean caused by wind. If heading into short chop I may use the tabs to get the bow down. Tabs usually all the way up in a following sea.

    Compression test readings-work order

That does seem low. I recently did a cold compression test on my 2006 F250 with 1450 hrs. 5 cylinders were 175 psi and one was 170 psi. Have always run Yamaha Ringfree in the fuel. You might want to try a Ringfree shock treatment to see if the low values are due to carbon buildup.
