    Leaving boat in water....

I own a place in Marathon and spend several weeks a year down there. The rest of the time, my boat is in a hoist in northern FL. I also leave the boat in the water. Depending on the time of year, slime starts to grow after 4-5 days and harder crusty stuff after maybe 10 days. The slime comes...

    F250 Reliability

I have a pair of them with 700 hours each and they have been flawless. There is no reason why, with proper operation and maintenance, the engine won't run for years. I agree with coconut330. Have it checked out by a good mechanic. He'll let you know if it's been trashed.

    28'3" Release Casting Platform

I have the casting platform on my 283. Came with the boat. No negative issues and good place to store things under like extra bags. Also, top cushion makes for a nice sunning lounge. If I didn't already have it, I'd probably add it.

    33 Grady White

I'd have to agree w/ your thoughts on the engines. That's a lotta boat for a pair of 225's. I have a 283 w/ 250's and wouldn't want any less. EBay just posted a 33 foot Canyon w/ a pair of 350's. This looks like it the going power for a boat this size.

    yamaha four srokes 250 300

This one's easy. I have a pair of 2005 250's and they have been flawless. The only thing they require is 89 octane gas and recommended service. What ever the highest grade is for engines, that's what these get. JJB

    28 Release sea trial

283 Release Congratulations. I have one just like it and it's a great boat. Happy to share notes with you. Have fun.

    273 chase

You made a good choice. I have a 283 (my model was called the Release) and I couldn't be more pleased. It's been a great boat. Happy to share any experiences or tips I can with you. JJB

    Garmin GFS on twins

You'll probably be close but unless the engines are absolutely identical which is rare, they will probably burn fuel at slightly different rates, maybe as much as a 10% difference. I had a pair of the Yamaha 150's and according to the Yamaha instrumentation, they were never exactly the same...

    Florida Fishing in March

I fish in the Keys and the dolphin generally don't start showing up until late April/early May. Things really heat up in June. They come up further north (Middle Grounds area in the Gulf) as the summer progresses. You never know but March is pretty early for Florida.

    Gulf of Mexico

The kingfish are running in the Gulf off of Clearwater. Good luck with smaller size (10-15#) by trolling plugs. One 20 pounder hit. Otherwise, normal free lining and slow trolling w/ planers. Based on a couple days, looks like it's gonna be a good season. Blackbird :D

    2000 Yamaha OX?

I had a 26 foot Century with a pair of these engines. Overall, they performed very well. They are thirsty but ran just fine on regular 87 octane gas. The only problems I had over a 7 year span was one had a "ghost" problem with blowing the main 30 amp fuse every few years. Since the problem...

    Old Decals

I bought an 05 Grady that previously had large decals on the sides. They have been removed but after a time, the hull fades at different rates and the old name clearly shows through. A good buffing with off the shelf cleaner/polish takes care of the problem but only lasts a few months or so in...

    Lift configuration

Sorry for the delay. The bunks are 16 feet long and the boat hangs over the back about 5 feet. The hull just starts to make contact with the front of the bunks. About 7 feet sticks out in front. I have water issues at low tide so keep it as far back as I can. The bunks are carpeted (needs...

    Lift configuration

Originally, I installed the hoist for a 26 foot Century (about 5500#) loaded. At the time, the hoist was rated for 10,000 pounds. When I bought the Grady, it was time to go over it. Fully loaded, the 283 is probably about 9500#. The only thing I changed were the spool pipes and the cables...

    test "drive"?

I'm probably biased because I have a 283 w/ a pair of 250 4-strokes. That being said, I think it's a great boat. Performance, ride and fishability are outstanding. It does have a couple draw backs. My wife likes to lounge in her deck chair (says it's more comfortble than the rear seat) and...

    Livewell Overflow

Thanks - I saw this site but it's only 11 inches long. My bait well is 22" from bottom to the top so this would only allow for partially filling. I'm looking for one that's about 15 inches. Might not be out there so if this is all there is, guess it will have to do. JJB

    Livewell Overflow

I need a livewell overflow tube for my 283 Release. Couldn't find any info on the Grady site and local dealer wasn't much help. Store bought come in 12 and 18 inch lengths. Didn't measure but the live well is about 30 inches deep. Any one know what length I need and who might sell them...

    GPS

The 2 big players are Garmin and Lowrance. Personal opinion is they are pretty comparable. Garmin is a little easier to figure out w/o reading the instruction manual but Lowrance is pretty simple too. I'd recommend going to a full service store like West Marine where they have displays and...
