    New Dash, 2000 Seafarer

I went option#1 as well. Made the panel out of 1/2" thick black marine starboard. Black makes a nice color contrast. My electronics all came with a template for flushmounting. I used a router to bevel the edges of the panel. No need for even drilling new holes in the boat. Used the existing...

Thinking of buying a Seafarer 226

I should mentioned in my previous post that I slow troll all day long on Lake Erie with my 2003 F225. It's a great motor for slow trolling. Just run some Sea Foam through it every now and then. It's as quiet and smooth as an engine could possibly be.

Thinking of buying a Seafarer 226

Check the thru hull fittings and all attached plumbing. Check the fuel system. Check the wiring. Look for water in the transom. Better yet, get it surveyed. I have an '03 Sea Farer with that same motor. With that motor, the transom fittings for the floor drains (scuppers) sit about 1/2 under...

canvas and windows on or off the boat for winter

That's what I do. Everything (and I do mean everything) comes out of the boat and stored in my home, before I put the boat in storage for the winter. I store my boat in an environment that does not freeze, but I want to make sure that nothing has an opportunity of getting mold or mildew on it...

    Cleaning Gradys..

I know, 10 times a year isn't much. I have two Son's (ages 12 and 9) that are more into playing sports than fishing. Spring baseball, traveling tournament baseball, football, basketball, and traveling tournament basketball, then repeat. I never like to miss any of their games or practices, and...

    Cleaning Gradys..

Same here. All fiberglass gets waxed. The smooth glass gets 3m. The non-skid gets woodys. All stainless gets polished. All upholstry, clear plastic (isinglass), and trailer tires gets protectant. All canvas gets treated. All zippers and snaps get lubed. I like to keep my stuff looking like...

$67,785 for a 20 foot boat! Do I laugh now?

I agree with Bama96. Find a nice clean used one if you can. You'll save yourself alot of money. Next best thing is to find a model year leftover sitting on a dealer's lot that they want to get rid of. That's the route I took. In '04, I got my Grady 226 for $27k less than that price you were...

    Adding Downriggers to Gulfstream

No. You don't need another battery just for the downriggers.

    Scuppers and engine in water

Thanks Bobp. but already stated the same thing in a previous post. Does it really make a big difference, or is it just semantics? When I spoke with them I believe the term used was "recommendation". Who knows, maybe the ABYC recommends that the manufactorers adhere to their standards. Again...

    Scuppers and engine in water

Well then they're telling different stories on their end. In 2005, Jeff Brown specifically told me that that the ABYC recommendation does apply and he offered to send me the shut off valves free of charge.

    Scuppers and engine in water

Not so. Anytime there is submerged fitting, there is supposed to be a valve to prevent water from entering the plumbing beyond the fitting. This is an ABYC recommendation. And since the cockpit drain scupper is submerged, the ABYC recommendation is applicable. I have spoken to grady white about...

    Duratrim and WD-40

Nothing makes vinyl or plastic look better (or is easier to apply) than "Protect All". You should see what it does for the dark blue Grady rub rail. It might not be the most long lasting product, but it is so easy to apply you won't care. And I'll put it up against anything for ease and results.

    Scuppers and engine in water

The heavier the motor on the transom, the lower the stern of the boat's going to sit in the water. I keep my boat on the trailer so it's not a big concern for me. But I have considered keeping the boat in a wet slip. Maybe someday. If I do ever make the change to wet slipping the boat, I know it...

    Wet Transom Question

VROs got a bad rap from the problems they had when they first came out. After several years, they got those problems ironed out. At least for the most part. If you've got a '94, check your oil line. Back in that era they were using a vinyl line which would eventually get hard and crack. They...

That's me. How you doing Perchjerker?

    Wet Transom Question

If you mess with the motor mount bolts, you will then need to reseal them as well. But why go to all the trouble? The boat is already 14 yrs old. If there is a way for water to get in, it's already done so. And if that is the case, all your doing to do is seal the moisture in. That won't...

    Seafarer 226 versus 228

But whatever you do, avoid the other salesman (not listed above) at all costs. Also, Beaver Park's service department is pretty bad. I could tell you some stories. There's good reason Grady White had put them on probation and was considering dropping them. Hopefully they're working to turn...

    Seafarer 226 versus 228

TerryP is right. The width of the "notch" is considerably narrow on the 226. They designed it so it is just wide enough, and no wider. I also agree with TerryP in this point. The only weak link in the setup is the plastic clips which hold the board up. But with a very simple mod (like adding a...
