    Seafarer 226 versus 228

I went out to the Grady White website and looked at pics of the 225. I see the door your referring to. I'm familiar with the design. A previous boat I owned (non-Grady) had the same design and it was indeed a pain. But the 228 and 226 are completely different in this regard from the 225. In...

    228 Flushmount & fishfinder upgrade

Nice setup. That's what I did with my electronics box, only I used black starboard. I have a Lowrance 525 cdf. I mounted it on the port side of the flush mount panel, with my VHF radio to the right. I have a remote control for the stereo to the right of the Lowrance as well. If I had a hardtop...

    Seafarer 226 versus 228

Capt Chris, where are your batteries located that you find access to be difficult? Mine are located on the port side, in the compartment under the rear seat. IMO, they are extremely easy to access. Perhaps the best battery access I have ever seen. Moving almost 600 pounds of motor further...

    Seafarer 226 versus 228

BTW, the cockpit is no larger on the 228 than it is on the 226.

    Seafarer 226 versus 228

I have a 226 that I use on Lake Erie. I've been in some rough conditions and never had a problem. I purchased my boat as a leftover so I didn't have a choice between 226 and 228. One thing I don't like about the 226 is having to remember to lower the splash board on the motor well before raising...

    towing question

I disagree. It won't be borderline with that vehicle. Hull + motor + full tank of fuel and your talking 4,600 lbs. Now tack on hardtop, dual batteries, fishing gear, accessories, full coolers, full holding tank, and your well over that 5k limit even before the trailer. I haven't had my...

    towing question

I tow my '03 Seafarer 226 with a Nissan Titan. My Titan is rated at 9,400 lb towing capacity. The Titan handles the job very well. Make sure you do not exceed the combined weight specification for your tow vehicle. Exceeding towing capacity is not something you want to do. If you are in an...

Thru Hull Leaking 94 24' Explorer

My 226 has the pryouts throughout the boat. The pryouts have a diamond pattern which matches the diamond pattern on the floor non-skid. I suspect that is a reason Grady choose to use that style on the floor. Pryouts were also used in the splashwell. The splashwell inspection covers are used...

    damage during hauling? PLEASE READ

That's probably the guys blanket response to any inquiry about boat hauling. Just fill in the blank with any brand name and he'll tell you they are sh!t. Then, after you've hired him and he screwed up and damaged your boat, his response will be "See, I told you they were sh!t".

The new 2004 Grady 208 Adventure

bdubzo6, I have an '03 Grady 226 on an EZ Loader bunk trailer. My tie downs attach the same way that yours do. Prior to my Grady, I had a '94 22ft Proline on an EZ Loader trailer and the tie downs attached the same way as well. Never had the even the slightest problem. I just take care to...

    225 e-tec on a 1997 seafarer???????

I could be wrong, but I don't think weight would be an issue. I say that because I have a Yamaha F225 on my '03 Seafarer, and I'm sure the Etec is lighter than my engine. IMO, HOOPER cited many good reasons to consider an Etec. Pretty hard to argue with the points HOOPER made. I must...

    Future of Boating & GW

I believe this is the 2nd company I have heard of that is making (or attempting to make) fuel using algae. The innovation that we'll likely be witnessing should result in some interesting investment opportunities.

    Future of Boating & GW

I agree. I finally get the 4 x 4 truck and boat I've always dreamed of, then along comes this $4 gallon gas. Well as unhappy as I am about the price of gas, I believe (or at least I'm hoping) there is a silver lining. The motivation is now stronger and than ever to develop alternate sources /...

    Price for a new 226

Maybe they're working hard to turn things around. Hopefully that is the case. But when I bought my boat from them in '04, they were on probation with Grady White (meaning Grady White was considering dropping them). Bill Schaeffer told me that himself. I've spoken with Bill Jeancola after I took...

    Price for a new 226

That's who I bought my boat from. I'd advise you to switch to someone else on their sales staff. Bill Jeancola perhaps. My purchasing experience from Beaver Park was very poor and Bob Wolfe was a big reason for that.

Hull and Deck Cleaner Advice / Simple Green

Be careful using that product. There's a reason the manufactorer states "not for use on glossy surfaces" on the label. Use it only as a last resort.

    Trailer - Galvanized or Aluminum?

I had an aluminum I beam and a galvanized square tube of near equivalent capacity. Lifted the boat off of each. I noticed that the aluminum trailer flexed much more than the steel.
