    Paint Remover

Wonder it acetone would work. I have used acetone on gel coat and it didn't seem to hurt the gel coat. But I'm not sure how well it would remove the type of paint that you want to remove.

    Greyg8r is back

Your not the only one that had affected. The way things were going, I had reached the point that I had almost lost complete interest in this site. But now that the moderator has taken action, I think it will improve.

    Greyg8r is back

Ah man greyg8r, you are really going through alot. Sorry to hear about your Mother-in-law. Also very sorry to hear about your Son dealing with an illness. I'm glad to hear that he is pulling through. Being a parent myself (as I'm sure many other's on this board are), I can genuinely...

    getting ready

I clean and wax the boat from the top down. I put a little simple green (maybe enough to fill one or two coffee cups) in a 5 gallon bucket, fill the bucket with water. Spray the area of the boat that I'm going to wash, with clear water. Then use the sudsy simple green solution to clean. On the...

How often does everyone replace their batteries?

I try to get 4 yrs out of my batteries. Just bought a new one last week to replace the 2nd (of the two) batteries that came with my boat when I bought it from the dealership. Replaced the 1st one last year. Ideally, I like to stagger the replacement amongst the dual batteries. That way, I'll...

Grady says F350 not suitable for pre-2008 boats

It'd be interesting to hear specifically what was done to accomodate the F350. I know Grady was already incorporating a 5/16" aluminum angle into their transom core that the top motor bolts went through (I'm referring to what's inside the transom, not that aluminum trim they use to cover the gap...

    hand held gps

I'll be using my Garmin GPS 5 deluxe as my backup. It's a good road navigation unit that also works decently on the water or off road. But I'm not sure if it's even available anymore. I bought mine 5 years ago. I had actually been using it as my Grady GPS the past 3 yrs (mounted on a RAM mount...

Recommendations for location of GPS antenna on 226 Seafarer

I might have to go that route. I had a 4' Shakespeare fiberglass antenna extension on hand and I discovered that the inside diameter of the antenna extension is too narrow to accomodate the jacks on the ends of the Lowrance cable. So using the antenna extension / mast might not be an option now...

Recommendations for location of GPS antenna on 226 Seafarer

One more thing. If the VHF antenna is a couple ft from the GPS antenna, will the VHF interfer with the GPS?

Recommendations for location of GPS antenna on 226 Seafarer

Looking at it some more, I've ruled out mounting the GPS antenna on top of the cuddy roof. I would foresee someone wanting to sit there when we're occaisionally still fishing (I ussually troll though). I'm either going to go with the port side location In agreement recommended (there's a photo...

Recommendations for location of GPS antenna on 226 Seafarer

Thanks Gradyfish. Good point about the boat moving and how that might affect things if I were to locate the antenna on the deck with the bow rail above it. You've convinced me and I'm now on board with the totally unobstructed location. I think I'll now be looking to use a mount that attaches...

Recommendations for location of GPS antenna on 226 Seafarer

Thanks Gradyfish. Based on your experience with the behind the windshield location, I've ruled that out. What do you think about the deck location. I'm looking at placing it just behind the base of the bow rail stanchon. 2nd stanchon back. The bow rail would be about 14" above the antenna. I...

Recommendations for location of GPS antenna on 226 Seafarer

I need to install a GPS antenna (puck ?) for the Lowrance 525 CDF I'm installing in my boat. My boat does not have a hardtop. I have two locations I'm considering installing the antenna. The location I like the best, is in front of the console, on the flat area, just behind the windshield. I...

    Jimmy's Marine Service

He proved he couldn't stay away. Pretty close to around this time last year, in one of his posts he wrote, "this is absolutely my last post on this board. I guarantee it". LOL, no more than 12 hours later he was back on this site posting. The thread in which he made his "guarantee"...

    how do you wet sand?

I've wet sanded gel coat repairs to the point that you can't tell where the repair is. Now I forget the exact name of the type of sand paper, but it's the black stuff they sell in either auto parts stores or even home centers that says wet or dry sand on the back of the paper. Anyway, dip the...

How to tell a wet transom?

For the original owner of the boat, replacement wood, labor and all associated materials are covered in the 1st 10 years. After that, only the replacement wood and labor is covered, but not the associated materials. I obtained a copy of the wood warranty before I bought my boat. The warranty...
