    Battery Question

I think your ideal system would be 2 starting batts + 1 house batt (deep-cycle). I know my 200 OX66 needs all the cranking amps I can get when cold starting. If you are limited to only 2 batteries, then you'd be best served w/ 2 dual-purpose.

    Hatch Blemishes ?

I have an 88 228 and most of the hatches have chips on the edges and corners. In fact, every time one of my passengers slams one of them down, another chip comes off. I think gas shocks for each hatch would solve the problem, but those are only found on high-end boats.....

    268 hull bubble

there's a weight diff of 200# if we're talking 2-S vs 4-S. I don't think that should be too much weight even if you have 4-Ss. Me personally, this would need to be the best deal ever for me to buy the boat. Its either a repair job (god knows what could have been broken) or its an...

    bilge fuses

"two fuses below the battary switches" could be for ANYTHING. You should have a hot wire from the pump auto-switch going directly to a battery. That line should have a fuse in it and is what you need to take out. Or else disconnect that hot line from your battery.

    replacing pry out deck Plates

all I know is I replaced mine in my 1988 228. This was about 8 years ago. Took them all out, threw them out, went to West Marine and bought the standard 6" and 4" size (I think) and when I went to install the 4"ers on the vertical part of the fishboxes, I found those holes would not fit the...

    268 hull bubble

it may be a repair, and it may not flex at the current time, but if it WAS a repair, it was likely a repair of a flex. :? You didn't say what power is on the boat? Are they Yam 4-S 250s? I bet if you call Grady and ask them if they send boats out of the factory like this, you would...

    Help! Choosing Between Boats

Would you be comfortable with a 2004 Yamaha 4-S with no warranty? I'm not sure I understand your statement. With all the posts about 4-S corrosion issues in Yamahas, I wouldn't be comfortable with that engine. But hey, I'm one of those crazy people who saved $6k by buying an OX66 instead...

    cheap way

I find Gold Bond does a good job on my bulge. 8) For my bilge, I'd probably get some boat soap.

    268 hull bubble

you said "engines". What power is on this? Its a eurotransom. It almost looks like the euro-transom has flexed downward, like it had too much weight on it during dry-storage. That bow is directly under the euro-transom. I'd walk away at a brisk pace. Not necesarilly run, but this is a...

What is that drain plug for?

That plug is there for the Grady I/O models that have an inboard engine block. If you have an OB model, you don't need to plug it. If you have an I/O, it should be plugged. Either way, water will end up getting into your gas tank compartment evebtually. Might as well let it drain (if you...

What size of Kicker Motor is needed for 22' Boat

By the time you get to the stern, lower the kicker, lower the kicker bracket, open the fuel line, prime it, and pull or push start it, you would be on the rocks. You could deploy an anchor in less time, and you'll still be calling Sea Tow.....

What size of Kicker Motor is needed for 22' Boat

I have a 228, live on the chesapeake, and I got rid of my 9.9 kicker. Rarely is it calm enough for it to be useful. In any headwind you can hardly keep steerage. Doesn't work for trolling. Save your $ and get 10 years of Sea Tow. Just my opinion....

    what do you recomend....?

I used Petit Ultima SR. Boat was in the water 2 years, hauled this past winter, washed off and looked pretty good. Only a small amount of spot sanding before applying a new coat.

    spider/ stress cracks in 268

I have a 23 yo Grady. I have spider cracks in the gelcoat most everywhere, but none of them are big enough to fit a fingernail into. Cracks themselves aren't unusual, BUT if they are ALL in the same place you might wonder. Maybe the previous owner liked to slam his hatches closed? OR, maybe...

    Hard power steering

normally you "bleed your hydraulic system" in order to remove air from the system. It should be filled w/ hydraulic fluid. However, my SeaStar hydraulic system doesn't indicate any "psi". I really don't k now what you're dealing w/.

    Hard power steering

Hmmm, pumping air INTO the steering system? That sounds odd. Normally air getting into your system means you get "soft" spots in your turn, not hard spots. Maybe this is some other non-fluid type of hydraulic system?

Help! Cuddy Cabin Mod 228 seafarer

those are good ideas. I redid my barrier coat 2 years ago and would have a little left over after each coat, and I used that to paint the helm areas where I pulled the monkey carpet out. Looks darn good! Of course, i wouldn't suggest buying $180/gal stuff to do what you're doing, just a use...

    Caulk color???

you'll be happy in 15 years when your Grady is white and you don't need special colors..... i know there's no almond color left on mine!

Looking at buying my first boat. 1984 Seafarer

yeah, that guy went cheap to repower and that boat does NOT have enough hps. You will not save $ buying an underpowered boat. The engine will need to work harder. I have a 200 Yam 2-S on my 228.

    Bottom paint recoat

what seasick said. Sand only the spots that are 'dirty' until it looks like fresh clean ablative. Then overcoat. A lot of people use a coat of hard epoxy bottom paint as a base-layer and overcoat w/ ablative.
