    Tongue weight on trailer.

Having hauled lots of very heavy things for years, most non-boat trailering advice I've heard suggests 10-20% tongue weight. I can't see why boats should be any different. Being ever so detail minded when it comes to my boat, I calculated the tongue weight as follows: 1. Weigh tow vehicle...

    East Coast Oversize Trailer Permits

All, I'm planning to trailer my 9'3" Gulfstream from Maine to Florida. Does anyone have tips for acquiring all the necessary permits from each State's DMV? To save everyone some time, yes, I've searched the forums for similar topics, yes, I have enough truck and trailer, and yes, I'm sure I...

    Anyone running a 4 Blade Prop for 2006 228 F250

Strongly recommend you contact the Prop God http://www.propgods.com before making a purchase. I was convinced I needed a 4 blade but they listened carefully and then recommended a different solution that has worked beautifully. No cost to call, lots of upside. Search "propgods" for other...

    Oddball Fuel Issues

Update.......have not had any more trouble with stalling at idle. Boat seemed to fix itself. Can only surmise that it was bad fuel but never found any water in the separators.

    Oddball Fuel Issues

Seasick, Thanks for the reply. Pumping the primer bulb doesn't seem to help it run any better. But the bulb is a bit softer than I remember. Would that suggest a fuel air leak? Alternatively, if it was a bad sensor would it come and go, or just fail and stay bad? Many mornings the engine...

    Oddball Fuel Issues

Hi All, We're off to a fast start this season in Maine but I have an engine dilemma. My 2005 Yamaha F250 has 1,600 hours, has always been well maintained, and until now performed flawlessly. But.....twice this year I've left the boat for 3-4 days and when I've come back it won't start or run...

    Batteries on a 2006 marlin 250 hp

Sounds fine. Where are you located (latitude wise)? in Maine we wind up replacing every few years. Six years seems very old up here. More importantly, why do you ask? Any problems starting?

    My current experience with Raymarine

I concur, Raymarine's products are trash and their company is worse, in my experience of course. I've posted several rants about them over the years. My favorite is when their latest software upgrade caused my C80 to require a separate compass module to tell direction. When I complained and...

Where are you mounting your life raft?

First of all, I would listen to Freddy. Boaters in Maine have seen way too many friends die, and equip their boats accordingly. For me, having a smaller boat than Freddy, I have USCG certified life raft in a valise that I keep in the cabin. Optimal? No. Next best thing? Yes. That...

Where to mount an EPIRB on a Grady?

I can't fathom not adding an extra layer of security for a few bucks. If you can't deploy your Cat II for WHATEVER reason, wouldn't you want at least a chance of having a Cat I deploy automatically? Does anyone think the Cat I LESSENS your chances of survival?

Where to mount an EPIRB on a Grady?

I agree with Gman, put it on the hardtop but where it can be manually deployed. The Cat 1 feature to automatically deploy may not work with our boats given the depth needed to activate the hydrostatic release. I went with a Cat 1 figuring it gives me one more possible scenario to get rescued...

    Life Raft Recommendation and Mounting

Keep in mind that most manufacturers recommend keeping a valise-packed life raft dry, and especially away from salt water.

    Advice for a 2002 Gulfstream w/single 225 4 Stroke

I used to think that a four blade prop would be correct for this boat and motor. But the "prop god" (http://www.propgods.com) in Sarasota spent a lot of time on the phone with me analyzing my boat, usage and needs. He's the guy who convinced me to try a three blade 15 pitch and had lots of...

    Advice for a 2002 Gulfstream w/single 225 4 Stroke

I love my Gulfstream but it is a chore running it with a single. The right prop makes all the difference in getting on plane with a load, but the high RPMs needed to run the boat at speed and the sluggish close quarters handling seem to defy solution. Yes, you can make anything work but it's a...
